Thoughts From Randy
To The Girls

I am a product of the growth and development of women's sports in America, and my  thoughts today go out to the female athletes of Special Olympics.  From one girl to another - I just want you to know that on behalf of every woman whoever played a sport - we are very proud of you.

NMLETR delegates return from 2012 International Torch Run Conference informed, educated, and inspired

On Nov. 7 - 10, New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run selected 13 delegates to attend the 2012 International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference in Indianapolis, IN. The conference theme was "Raising the Game."

Among the many highlights, the biggest came in the announcement that Law Enforcement Torch Run efforts worldwide raised a total of more than $42 million for Special Olympics in the past two years-a huge achievement that drew loud applause of appreciation and accomplishment from LETR officers and Special Olympics athletes.

While the conference succeeded in offering many educational and informative sessions for officers to take back to their states, attendees were also treated to an equal amount of inspirational and entertaining presentations by honored guests such as SO Chairman Tim Shriver, Former Professional Baseball Pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers Carl Erksine, and Bobby Plump-the inspiration behind the movie "Hoosiers." However, the real show-stoppers came in the form of the conference's many remarkable Global Messengers from Indiana: Allison Werne, Brent Bowgren, Heather Himes, Jason Plante, Samuel Fawley, Paul Philhower, and Ken Melvin-who dazzled the hundreds of officers with their passionate and touching presentations.

South Regional Bowling Tournament brings Smiles, Fitness, and Open Eyes to SONM athletesNew!

The SONM South Regional Bowling Tournament not only brought over 150 athletes, over 90 volunteers, and countless fans together two weeks ago in Las Cruces, but the tournament also gave athletes the opportunity to get eye and dental examinations and physical fitness tests from Healthy Athletes venues. Representatives from Delta Dental and The Lion's Club, and Greg Goldblatt of Direct Therapy Services set up Special Smiles, Opening Eyes, and FUNFitness tents outside of Ten Pin Alley during the tournament for SONM athletes to visit after they were done bowling.

Athlete Jeffrey Ramirez from Special Olympics Las Cruces visited the FUNFitness tent. "I got to do all of the exercises," Jeff stated, "I had a great time!"

Special thanks to our volunteers from New Mexico State University Track and Field Team, Walgreens, the Mayfield Dance Team, UPS, White Sands Federal Credit Union, Las Cruces Realtor's Association, and Wells Fargo, and to the volunteers at the Healthy Athletes venues.
Thank you 2012 South Regional Bowling Tournament Sponsors! New!
