Last week I had the privilege of attending the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch
Run Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. One thousand officers from around the world gathered to celebrate their fundraising success, strengthen their efforts, and further unite around the Special Olympics Movement - the cause they have chosen as their own.
This year's conference had a stellar line-up of
motivational speakers. One in-particular uniquely opened our eyes and our hearts to the battle all people with intellectual disabilities fight against on a daily basis - ignorance, injustice, and denial of opportunity. Her name is Allison Werne, a 31-year-old Special Olympics athlete, who in spite of being confined to a wheel chair and not being able to talk - in a matter of minutes gave every single one of us an incredibly precious gift.

| Crafty donations needed for Posole Ole Fun Walk New!
SONM Posole Ole Fun Walk will have a brand new area this year: the craft area! SONM athletes, family, and friends will be invited to create a homemade ornament for several holiday trees auctioned off at the 2012 Golf Classic Auction.
Reminder to everyone interested in donating materials for the Posole Ole Christmas tree craft area, we are looking for the following items in these color schemes:
- Small Ornaments
- Ribbon (all widths)
- Christmas Foam Cut-Outs (Large)
- Stickers/Small Foam Shapes
- Pipe Cleaner
Blue, Silver and White Green and Red
Brown, Gold, and Copper
Blue, Purple, Pink and Green

Posole Ole is just about two weeks away and there is still time to register or donate! The event will be held on Saturday, December 1st at the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum from 8 am until 12 pm. For more information about the event, click HERE.

LETR News!!! New!
LETR Celebration Luncheon commemorates officers' achievements around the state
On Thursday, October 25th dozens of New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run (NMLETR) officers from around the state descended on Albuquerque for the 2012 NMLETR Celebration Luncheon-commemorating the year's many accomplishments.
At the height of the meeting, LETR State Torch Run Director Michelle Ugalde announced a total of $329,344 raised for Special Olympics New Mexico.
Among the honored guests present were Ryan Garcia of LETR Presenting Sponsor Wells Fargo and New Mexico Attorney General Gary King, whom both shared words of appreciation and recognition toward our NMLETR officers present and to those who couldn't attend the luncheon.
NMLETR Liaison Heather Scott shared information about a new LETR International partnership with Bowling Proprietors' Association of America called Strikes for Special Olympics. South Regional Bowling Tournament this weekend New!
The South Regional Bowling Tournament is this weekend at Ten Pin Alley in Las Cruces! Over 150 athletes from nine teams will come together to compete in SONM's final competition of the sports season. The tournament will begin at 8:00 am and last until 2:30 pm. Healthy Athletes venues will also be available at event! For more information, click HERE.

Great successes at SONM North Regional Bowling Tournament and State Basketball Tournament New!
Congratulations to the SONM athletes and coaches who participated in the 2012 North Regional Bowling Tournament and the State Basketball Tournament! With over 650 athletes at bowling and over 250 at basketball, the tournaments were both great competitions. Big thank you goes out to the event sponsors and volunteers who made both of the competitions possible and successful!

Calling all artistic athletes! New!
It is time to create SONM's community partner recognition plaques for 2013 and we need athlete artwork! If you are an artistic athlete or know someone who is, we are looking for pieces of art to adorn our 2013 sponsor recognition plaques. It is a great opportunity to show sponsors how talented SONM athletes are outside the world of sport!
