It is Now Easier To Apply For Social Security Disability Benefits |
The Social Security Administration has made it easier to apply online for Social Security Disability Benefits.
It used to be that a claimant had to complete the Social Security Disability Benefits application and the Adult Disability Report form separately when applying for Disability Benefits.
Social Security has now streamlined the process by joining both forms together in one place.
Please click here for more information on applying for Social Security Disability Benefits.
Please note, however, that this improved application process is for Social Security Disability Benefits only and not for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
For more information on applying for SSI Benefits please click here.

If a Person leaves the Country Will They Lose Their SSI Benefits?
|
If a person receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from Social Security and they leave the country for more than 30 consecutive days, they will normally lose their SSI Benefits.
For SSI purposes, leaving the country means leaving the 50 states, the District of Columbia or the Northern Mariana Islands.
To regain SSI Benefits after leaving the country, a person must return to the United States and be present for 30 consecutive days before being eligible to receive SSI Benefits again.

Beginning August 2014, Social Security will no longer issue Social Security number printouts in the local Social Security offices. People who need proof of their Social Security number and who cannot find their card, will need to apply for a replacement card.
In addition, beginning October 2014, Social Security local offices will stop providing benefit verification letters, except in emergency situations.
Benefit verifications are available online, and can be obtained anytime by registering for a "my Social Security" account at:
www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount
or requested through Social Security's national toll-free number: 1-(800)772-1213.
