Gov. Scott Signs MOU With Israel Supporting Tech Projects
TALLAHASSEE - In late October, Governor Rick Scott and Israeli Consul General Chaim Shacham signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Florida and Israel to support research, development, and commercialization of projects related to aerospace and other technology sectors. Florida's $1 million will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Israel, to create a $2 million joint research fund. Governor Scott said, "Our Florida Families First Budget committed $1 million in recurring funds to further Florida's long-standing economic partnership with Israel. The memorandum of understanding we signed today creates a targeted investment that will increase Florida's role as a hub for global commerce, deepen the Florida-Israel relationship, and create jobs and opportunities for Florida's families."

Jeffrey Berger
By Elizabeth Vocke
Jeffrey Berger is fairly new to the Tampa community but he has already made a mark. After moving here in 2006 and setting up his law practice specializing in commercial real estate transactions, he knew he was in a place and time in his life to put as much time into volunteering as he had always wanted. "I found the community here to be extremely welcoming. The fact that people were willing and happy to have me help made me want to do it even more. It's not like that in every community." Jeffrey found many opportunities to lend his expertise while helping others. Currently serving on the Board of the JCC & Federation, he has been actively involved in the development of the new South JCC project, leading the legal negotiations with the Armory Board and coming to terms on a 99 year lease agreement. "I'm proud of how that turned out. We have a good working relationship with the Armory, a solid lease, and the JCC & Federation's interests are locked in as well. I expect that the development of the new South JCC is going to be an outstanding complement to the existing north JCC campus, and to the various synagogues and temples in South Tampa - providing the community "common denominator" for the various denominations of Jews living in South Tampa. And not just geographically, but also culturally, socially, educationally, and in other respects as well." Jeffrey is also an officer and Board member of Tampa Jewish Family Services, helping to set up the Hebrew Loan Program that provides interest free loans to those in need of short-term financial help. He has also been able to volunteer while honing his own life-long talent of playing the drums and percussion. He regularly plays for synagogues, charities and non-profit events, including playing drums for Greater Seder, which he has been involved in since its second year. "There is so much need out there. So many of us have been blessed with good fortune, good luck or a unique talent and in order for us to build our community, it's critically important to share and give back." Jeffrey is thankful for his many blessings in life, in particular his two daughters, Sherri and Tracy, who live in California. And soon, Jeffrey's life will take another turn happy turn when he marries his fiance Susan Kessler. "I was very fortunate to meet her and she is the reason why my time in Tampa has been so great."

How To Look Expensive
Posted by Etta from Wierzbnic
A "face that launched a thousand ships" can be yours if you follow the counsel of Andrea Pomeranz Lustig, former beauty editor of Glamour Magazine, now author of a breezy, new book, How To Look Expensive. A mere few hours in front of a mirror or a chi chi salon can give you the transformative look of "luxe" or what Lustig calls "less Paris Hilton and more Paris France." Enticing you to look well heeled on any paycheck, How to Look Expensive is a treasure trove of ideas for the modern woman. Shallow? But of course, and also fun! Vavavavoom looks that turn heads are never flashy, trashy or showgirl; polished and understated is the mantra in How to Look Expensive. For hair that is luxe, avoid too much teasing or you risk appearing like Snooky from Jersey Shore. More desirable hair is "touchable "and far more luxe. In fact, hair that looks too styled proves that you are trying too hard even if you are a "snooty socialite.". For a fashionista wannabe, throw away yesterday's "porn star lip gloss" and forget "shoe polish black" hair color." How to Look Expensive solves weighty problems from applying lash extensions to dissolving pimples and everything in between all the while assuring us that there is difference between looking expensive and costing a lot. Lustig names makeup gurus, and products that the celebrities, even the royals, use and neatly differentiates million dollar looks from those that make you look like you don't have a dime to spare on a good night cream. Of course the ultimate trick to looking luxe is that nobody can see the money you spend, only how terrific you look. Lustig sums it up well: Good taste does not come with a Platinum card. Hello Gorgeous!

"My Rabbi is the Best"
Seven-year-old Talya, having heard the joke told by her father some time ago, shows that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree by delivering the joke in fine form. Here's the setup:
One time, three guys are walking home from shul, and they're talking about how great their rabbis were. The first guy said "My rabbi is the best. Let me tell you a story about it." And then...
Enjoy! Watch the video here.
