Hospice Care of South Carolina Names 2012 Medical Director of the Year
Dr. Frank Sharp of Lancaster, SC has been named Hospice Care of South Carolina's 2012 Medical Director of the Year. Dr. Sharp was nominated by the staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina who felt his hard work and loyalty to the community deserved recognition. He is known throughout the Lancaster community as being a physician dedicated to the care of anyone in need. He always goes above and beyond for his patients to ensure the care needed is received. He is an advocate for hospice and those facing end of life care decisions. "Dr. Sharp has been an integral piece of the quality care we are able to provide to patients and their families. He truly knows what it means to be a patient advocate and we are fortunate to have him as a member of our care team", states Dawn-Michele Teachey, Chief Executive Officer, Hospice
Care of South Carolina.
Dr. Sharp received his MD from St. George's University (Grenada, West Indies). He then went onto complete his internship and residency at JFK Medical Center. Dr. Sharp is board certified in Family Medicine. He is a practicing physician with the Mackey Family Practice in Lancaster, South Carolina.

Jazz Concert At Chapman
Jazz singer Tish Oney and the Upstate Jazz All Stars will present an evening of live jazz in the David Reid Theatre at Chapman Cultural Center, Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. This international vocalist and teacher at USC Upstate has been featured on radio, television, and online media and has also headlined at several jazz festivals across the nation. History Museum Presents Local Furniture
Spartanburg Regional History Museum's exhibit Southern Lifestyle Through Furniture examines how typical family lifestyles in Spartanburg were reflected in their selection of furniture. Historically, Spartanburg has a wide range of citizens and the furniture in their homes can convey many things about their preferences, means and lifestyle. Furniture can be both functional and aesthetic, and when studied together, the furniture of a home can tell a story. The exhibit begins Wednesday, Jan. 30, and ends March 2. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and veterans, and $2 ages 6-17. For more information, call 542-ARTS.
Southern Art Exhibit
Spartanburg Art Museum presents South Carolina artist Tarleton Blackwell and work taken from his famous Hog Series. His large murals and paintings are filled with colorful collages of icons of what it means to be both a South Carolinian and southerner. Who knew pigs could be so important to the Southern way of life? Art Exhibit by the Late Mary Ellen Suitt
Spartanburg Art Museum presents the exhibit Mary Ellen Suitt: In Retrospect, a large sampling of artwork by one of Spartanburg's most well-known and respected visual artists. Displaying various styles and media, this lifespan of work includes the famous "blue people." The exhibit includes her early work in still lifes from the 1940s to her most recent smaller canvases. Artists' Guild's All Member Show
Artists' Guild of Spartanburg presents its first Member Awards Show, where each guild member has the opportunity to hang or display one art piece in this exhibit at Chapman Cultural Center. Cultural Center Open on Sundays with Mini-Concerts
Chapman Cultural Center is now open on Sunday afternoons, 1-5 p.m. You can visit Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Science Center, and Spartanburg Regional History Museum; the Artists' Guild of Spartanburg Gallery and the Student Galleries are also open and free. For lounging, The Green Room is available with free wi-fi. Additionally, free mini-concerts are presented in the Carlos Dupre Moseley Building 2-4 pm. The Spartanburg Youth Theatre presents Harold and the Purple Crayon! Geared for all ages, this beloved play depicts the story of Harold, a curious and imaginative little boy, who creates the world he wants to explore by drawing it. With the help of his magic crayon, Harold goes on multiple adventures, until he meets the villain Mr. Smudge, who has other plans for Harold's purple crayon. Youth Theatre Auditions Set for Snow White
Spartanburg Youth Theatre auditions for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of the Black Forest begin Saturday, Feb. 9, and are open to 3rd through 12th graders. To audition, bring a headshot of yourself and be prepared with a one-minute monologue. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to fill out information sheets. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable to move around in. All auditions are held at the Chapman Cultural Center Youth Theatre Classroom in the David W. Reid Theatre. Valentine's Day Concert Set
Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. with a Valentine Pops Concert featuring selections from Duke Ellington, Allan Gilliland, George Gershwin, and other popular jazz and Broadway favorites. Guest artist Jens Lindemann is hailed as one of the most celebrated trumpet soloists in his instrument's history and has played in every major concert venue in the world. Science Center Offers Teachers' Workshop

USC Upstate Business Students To Provide Tax Preparation Assistance
On February 1, and every Friday through tax season, 20 business majors at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at the
University of South Carolina Upstate, will be providing free tax preparation services to the community.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., IRS-certified students will be preparing federal and state income tax returns as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through the United Way of the Piedmont. The assistance will be provided to individuals and families with a household income of less than $51,000 a year. The goal of the VITA program is to ensure that the Spartanburg community receives the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.
The Johnson College of Business is located at 160 E. Saint John St. in downtown Spartanburg. The program will be offered in the Stock Trading Lab, room 120.
