Motivation & Achievement Concepts is a career development company, specializing in resume writing, interview training, continuing education for accounting, finance, and medical professionals. Owner & President, Melissa Cunningham, was born and raised here in Spartanburg. Most of you probably know her as Missy, with an admittedly "improperly loud laugh and big hair".
She completed her bachelors in Exercise Science with a minor in business at USC, and returned to Columbia a few years later to complete an MBA in Finance. In between, she returned to Spartanburg to run the new wellness facility at First Presbyterian. In 2010 after working in public accounting for 2 years, she returned to the place she calls home to run the branch of Robert Half International.
All along the way, she has been asked to be a speaker for groups such as ODO Development, Dixon Hughes Goodman, Spartanburg Methodist Colleges's Paralegal Program, the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Certified Medical Assistants of Western North Carolina, The Career Assistance Program at USC Upstate's Business School "The George", and last week was a workshop leader for over 500 CPAs at the NCACPA's Members in Business and Industry Fall Conference.
As her schedule became more and more hectic, it had obviously become time to fulfill a life long dream of doing this full-time. With her experience in organizational management, accounting, sales, Certified Personal Training, and public speaking, Motivation & Achievement Concepts was born.
Melissa is so thankful to be able to begin a business in a town she loves and is proud of its growth. She is so thankful to be a part of organizations such as The Spartanburg Breakfast Business & Professional Women's Chapter, Business Networking International,
the Spartanburg Jaycees, and the Urban League of the Upstate.
Melissa is also an adjunct professor of Management at The George.

West Main Artists Co-op Features Jeanne Brown's and Rebecca Savage's Exhibition:
The Path
Jeanne Brown and Rebecca Savage will present a two-person art exhibition at West Main Artists Co-op entitled The Path. The exhibit of multi-media art features interactive labyrinths and paths to make a statement about mind and body healing. Life experiences, including Jeanne's treatments for breast cancer and Rebecca's commitment as a caregiver, have brought the artists, who are also friends, to value creativity as a healing pathway for the soul. They believe that labyrinths are therapeutic and that art can become a method of communication and healing.
The Center for Health and Healing at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System will be introduced in this exhibition which will run from October 18th through November 10th. The opening reception will be on Thursday, October 18th, from 5-9 pm, during Spartanburg's Art Walk. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. The exhibition may also be seen during WMAC's regular hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 3-6 pm, and on Saturdays from 10 am-4 pm, or by appointment.
WMAC is a nonprofit organization funded in part by The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

An Evening of Great Conversations The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina Upstate will host its sixth annual "An Evening of Great Conversations" on Tuesday, October 16. This event showcases an elegant dinner in downtown Spartanburg where diners select among 12 conversations of important topics. Each dinner table engages in a specific conversation, which is facilitated by a faculty expert on the topic. Table leaders include Fulbright Scholars, award-winning authors, technologists, social scientists, and area-studies specialists. The table conversations are extraordinarily interesting, and varied. This year's list of topics includes: - Germany: Its Culture, History, and Beauty
- Bringing the Dead Sea to Life
- Making First Impressions
- Decapitations and Tyrants: The French Revolution as it Really Happened
- The South: From The Help to "Honey Boo Boo Child" and "Hillbilly Handfishin"
- Inside the Actor's Craft
- Moved by Music in Film
- You Thought Writing Was the Difficult Part
- From Cold War to Cardigans: The Myth of the 1950s
- Presidential Crystal Ball: Can You Predict the Winner?
- Alien Invasions: People, Pythons, and a Global Pandemic
- Is 60 REALLY the New 40? Maybe!
"The table hosts and topics this year are representative of the talented and creative faculty at the University," said Dr. Jennifer Parker, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at USC Upstate. "We have added many new topics that are sure to generate thought-provoking conversation." "An Evening of Great Conversations" is sponsored by Roebuck Advertising, SunTrust Bank, Integra Benefits Consulting, LLC, Piedmont Natural Gas, and OfficeMax. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, contact Shawn Masto at (864) 503-5700 or smasto@uscupstate.edu or visit www.uscupstate.edu/greatconversations. |
