Jay's Sports Column!

The Mets rode their pitchers to the World Series in 2015 - and not just on the mound. Some memorable moments at the plate included the four RBIs posted by Steve Matz in early July against the Reds, most ever by a pitcher in his major league debut, which Matz won. In late August, pitchers and hitters combined for 15 extra-base hits in a 16-7 pasting of the Phillies, tied for second most in a game since 1900. The Red Sox posted 17 extra-baggers in a 1950 win over the St. Louis Browns.

In other baseball news....

The Chicago Cubs were the fashionable choice to finally win the World Series in 2016 after a drought of 108 years. If they do, not a single player who even appeared for the Cubs in a World Series will be alive to see it. Since their 1908 championship, the Cubs have made it to just one other World Series, in 1945, when they lost to Detroit. The last living former member of that team, shortstop Lennie Merullo, passed away in May of 2015.

wner/operator of Manzini Farm (Keeseville, NY), which is a sheep and beef farm that prides themselves on being c

ertified grass fed and certified animal welfare approved. His farm supplies

grass-fed lamb and beef to high-end restaurants in Boston,

New York City, DC and Philadelphia.

Dr. Turco will cover general management, nutrition, record

keeping, selection,

inoculations, parasite control, and shearing time.

Gardening 101

Tuesday, May 24th @ 6pm

Presenter: Jay Ward

Jay grew up in a family with a gardening tradition and participated in the family garden on and off. However as an adult looking for good food, raised organically with a limited carbon footprint, Jay took up gardening in a more serious way.Using a loose adaptation of the Square Foot Gardening method, Jay grows a variety of vegetables in raised beds on his farm in Jay. Favorite veggies to grow include Sungold tomatoes (technically a fruit), carrots, garlic, onions, potatoes, peas, kale and anything else his family will eat.

Ward will cover building & filling a raised bed, more produce with less work in less space, raised beds, new soil with less weeding, growing up, not out, composting, watering, and cover crops.
