Dear Greetings! ,

This has been one of the prettiest and busiest falls for Bent Creek Lodge and the Asheville area.  The colors around the lodge have been absolutely vivid.  Jodee and I were accused of playing tourist as we got out and  shot pictures of the deck and yard with the other guests.  Click on the picture to see more of them on our facebook page.  We are close to "peak color" right here but there are plenty of areas with green leaves still.  I expect we will have good color well into November.  Thursday was the first night we have had a room open since October the 3rd. The restaurants have been packed and there is just a plethora of things to do.  This was part of an email this morning, "This Saturday is going to be a very busy night in downtown Asheville.  Janis Ian and Tom Paxton at Diana Wortham are sold-out, Xavier Rudd is playing at the Orange Peel just down the street, John Prine is playing a show at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and the big Craft Fair of the Southern Highland Craft Guild is at the Civic Center."    But things will begin to get back to normal soon.  So the week after Thanksgiving we are celebrating with a -

Post Leaf Season - Pre-Christmas Sale!  with the lowest rates of the year. See the details at the bottom of the newsletter.

Sally Wetzler - A Guest that Inspired Us

When Sally called to make a reservation for five nights for the first of October she let us know that she planned to get out and see the area and play hard.  She was bringing her kayak and was looking forward to paddling the French Broad rapids.  She wanted to know if we had a place to store her kayak when she wasn't using it AND if our facilities could accommodate her wheel chair. She showed up by herself with her van with the 2KAYAK tag and the chair lift and never slowed down.  She kayaked section nine (the one with the biggest rapids) of the French Broad River with "Water Girls at Play", an organization run by professional kayaker, Anna Levesque.   This group offers private instruction and trips from here to Costa Rica and beyond.  Anna and Girls at Play have been featured in several paddling and adventure magazines.  Sally spent the rest of her days exploring downtown and the surrounding areas on her own. In the evening she would wheel herself in and over to the fridge for a cold New Castle Brown Ale and recount her day with never the slightest complaint of her restrictive means of mobility.   My hat is off to you Sally, we hope to see you again soon.

Follow Up to "So where do we go on Vacation?"

Jodee made her trip to Nova Scotia and back the last week of September while I watched the Lodge.  She and Marcia had a great time and enjoyed the three day cooking school at Trout Point Lodge .  They were only gone for a week but it sure seemed longer.  I don't know how she did this for three weeks on her own while I was in the Grand Canyon.  Our separate adventures were fun but I suspect next year we will spend more time travelling together.  Let us know if you have someplace you think "we just have to see".    Click on the pictures to see a few more.

Sincerly,
