August!! Here's the great news, I did one trip and took the rest of the summer at home. I am a happy camper:-) In between busy and fun as ever, I got to lunch with some of my favorite folks. Lisa Resnick, former client now great friend dining al fresco at Maple and Ash.
Having a great biz-storming power lunch with a power guy, Mike Maddock, extraordinary speaker, entrepreneur, and all around great guy at Fig and Olive .
Off to NSA (National Speakers Association) international annual convention in 114 degree Phoenix... Seriously! It was the first time I was not presenting because I wanted to spend time with my tribe of coaching clients... Bob Roitblat, Jill Belconis, Lee Tkachuk, Mike Campion, all first timers. Got to see so many NSA pals, peers and be inspired by the talent that always shows up. Steve Shapiro, author, speaker and convention Chair (I'm actually featured in his first book, Goal Free Living; How to Have the Lif e You Want.)
It's always a pleasure to hug my bud', Harvey Mackay, of "Swim With the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive" book fame. I "bought" Harvey in an auction over a decade ago and we have remained great friends.
I had a blast with the Power Women of NSA at the PJ p arty and then gave a 7am "fireside chat" about Vistage membership, Chairing and speaking because we do not have enough women. I did this again for Black NSA because we don't have enough diversity either. After the convention, I headed to San Diego for three Vistage talks and my "You've Got Personnel-ity" speech for Batory Foods with Regional Sales Manager, Dan Riesenberg at The Ranch in Laguna Beach.
Kat Coleman, BFF from Chicago, now living in Long Beach came over to Costa Mesa so we could catch up over dinner.
Next, I headed to Asheville, NC to speak and stayed at the gorgeous Biltmore Estates. I stopped off for lunch with Purple Heart Homes , CEO John Gallina, Speaker School grad' and Charli. Topped off the month with my first ever Chicago Italian Beef sandwich, and the best of everything was seeing my Babs again...and again...and again!
It was just incredible...
And how was your month?

Essentialism
The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
Essentialism is more than a time management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter. For me, it empowered me to reclaim control of my own choices about where I spend my time and energy instead of giving others permission to choose for me. In essence, the book is about living by design, not by default, something I have always embraced. I loved his quote that "the Essentialist deliberately distinguishes the vital few from the trivial many".

SOCIAL MEDIA GURU GUY by Dave Nelsen
|
Dave's formal title is President, Dialog Consulting Group. From 2005 to 2009 he was CEO of TalkShoe, a social media company now serving more than one million monthly listeners...and the fabulous company I use to produce my monthly teleseminars.
Somehow, I managed to write more than 50 columns for Mikki's newsletter without mentioning one of my favorite apps on the planet: LastPass.
Before I describe LastPass, here's what you need to know about passwords. 80% of the world's so called hacking is due to bad passwords! You should use long, complicated passwords and you should never use the same password twice. The most common password is '123456'. If your password is '123457' you're not a genius; others have thought of that one too. Keeping passwords in a Word or Excel doc named "My Passwords" might not be a best practice either.
But if you make every password 16+ characters long, always use letters, numbers, and special characters, and make every password unique, how will you remember all of them? You don't have to. LastPass will do it for you. Read entire article

LIFE LESSONS...FUNNY, FIT
OR FABULOUS
by John Godoy
|
John Godoy is a healthy lifestyle expert. Through personal coaching, training and healthy lifestyle seminars, John guides clients in developing and sticking to the healthy habits necessary to tap their bodies enormous energy reserves - enriching their personal and
professional lives.
What if the food you put in your mouth today directly affected your personal and professional life in a dramatic way? What if it influenced whether or not you would be poor or rich? Whether or not you would achieve the personal and professional goals you set for yourself? What if the seemingly benign choice of what you eat today made a difference in the very course of your life?
I cannot stress enough that the foods that you eat will either fuel you or hinder you in your life - rarely are they neutral. They are the building blocks of your body and brain, and their quality will affect the proper functioning of both.
To eat healthy simply follow the - the 80/20 food rule.
Every time you eat, consume 80% of it in the form of real food. Real foods that are usually only one word in length, don't sound like a chemical equation, and your grandmother would recognize if you showed her. For the other 20% eat whatever you like within reason.

Culture of Influence: Part I
Influence Through Rational Persuasion
"Win by persuasion not by force." - Latin Proverb
Rational Persuasion is a tactic used to influence others, both inside and outside of our culture. It is characterized by the use of logical arguments with factual information to persuade others that a specific action will lead to a particular outcome. Leaders, whether formal or informal, who use rational persuasion well are effective at influencing others in a culture. Logical arguments tend to work best for people whose behavior is more influenced by thinking rather than emotion.
How do you actually use rational persuasion?
- Explain why an objective needs to be met: To get commitment for an objective, people want to know why it needs to be met and why it's important. Think about how you can make the objective into a Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-focused, Time-bound (SMART) goal.

"I'd always believed that a life of quality, enjoyment, and wisdom were my human birthright and would be automatically bestowed upon me as time passed. I never suspected that I would have to learn how to live - that there were specific disciplines and ways of seeing the world I had to master before I could awaken to a simple, happy, uncomplicated life."
~Dan Millman

Mindfulness is simply about being mindful of what you're thinking and deciding where you choose to focus your attention. Ideally, one would choose to focus his or her attention towards compassion, loving-kindness, and optimism. Mindfulness is about deciding to look on the bright side and deciding to be kind to yourself and others. That's it.
