HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL MY DAD

FRIENDS OUT THERE!

And for everyone else, enjoy your time with your dad...now!

What an incredible month this was for me, with two surprise awards: one from my National Speakers Association-IL Chapter was the Celebration of Life award for "unselfish support of others." The other was a Vistage award given to me in Atlanta at a surprise event with several Chairs, the Lifetime Achievement award for "extraordinary contributions."  I am humbled and grateful beyond words.

I capped off the week with dinner with one of my favorite people, Larry Hart in Atlanta, at an aptly named restaurant (below)Optimist.

Then I went on to the home (magnificant mansion!) of Goddess Shirley MacKarvich and husband Chuck. Spent a few days there (right),

Shirley house and then on to Vegas for the 4th Annual Gathering of the Goddesses (below).

In "Hotlanta," I visited with my good Add a description friend, Kenny Shook (left)  from back in my days in the fitness industry, and had a blast doing a webinar for Vistage on my newest presentation,  The Art & Heart of Storytelling.

On to my Vistage Chair retreat at Lake Geneva where we built a bike for a teamwork exercise  (see Visionary Volunteerism below) VCG retreat

In Cincinnati I spoke at Kost USA (pictured with Chad

Sigurdson, right).

Had a fun night on a gorgeous 48 Sabre foot yacht that took us out into Lake Michigan at sunset on a beautiful night where I got to look in awe at the beauty of this city that I love so much. Chicago's skyline is breathtaking.

BTW, the yacht and many others are for sale.

A definite highlight of the month was going with Sam to Cher's Dressed to Kill concert (sequin envy!), with opening act Cyndi Lauper.

What a month!

July is looking great...especially with my July 4th birthday! Light a firecracker for me!

SEE YOU NEXT MONTH!

Amazing Computer Tips

100 Amazing Computer Tips
Shortcuts, tricks and advice to help everyone from novice to professional
By Diane McKeever, CPP
I have known Diane McKeever, CPP (Certified Patient Person - and she IS!) since my days of living in Connecticut (decades ago) where she was my Filemaker consultant. She was brilliant at that and it turns out she's brilliant at much more. Her first book in a series is everything you could want to know and more. Written in the easiest format and easy for even the technologically challenged (like moi!) to tackle a page a day, a tip a day. There are tips on the Internet, Facebook, Email, Outlook, Excel, Word and so much more. The beauty of this book is it's profound simplicity. Simply AMAZING!

Connecting With the One Percent?

A few years ago, a friend gave me a satirical poster that said, "Blogging: Never have so many... said so much... to so few."

In fact, companies that blog get an average of 55% more web traffic than those that don't. Here's why.

Most people use Google as their search engine. In 2011, Google shifted its algorithms to favor newer content over older. Since half of all Internet traffic starts with a search, and a blog is continuously updated, it's easy to see how blogging can generate more inbound traffic. Blog

However, it turns out that the joke about blogging may now actually be applicable to Facebook.

In the beginning, Facebook showed users virtually everything posted by those they followed. This included their friends' activities and Liked companies' activities. These days, with so many people and so many companies posting on Facebook, a typical member would receive an estimated 1,500 updates per day. That makes your email inbox look positively peaceful.

Facebook is now optimizing the content that they present to members. As such, their algorithms now omit display of roughly 80% of potential posts. Facebook is being particularly hard on company posts, unless of course you pay for exposure. According to reliable sources (Time Magazine Online to name one), as of October 2013, just 12% of company posts reached their followers. In February 2014, the rate had fallen to just 6%. By this point in 2014 it's almost certainly lower... and likely heading for a floor around 1%.

Given that's on target, let's say your business has worked really hard to attract 10,000 followers. Each of your posts will soon be seen by just 100 of them. That doesn't mean that those 100 people are actually paying attention to you. They've got 300 other updates to review and they're not dedicating as much time as before. Yes, my Gen Y son reports that his peers are spending a lot less time on Facebook. In fact, he says that some of his friends consider Facebook to be a tool for "connecting with old people."

Never have so many companies... said so much... to so few.

If you're measuring your Facebook ROI (return on investment) and the service is bringing you boatloads of business, no problem, keep posting. If you're not seeing a return (and a surprising percentage of companies are not), maybe it's time to focus on blogging instead. Maybe, just maybe, that will help you reach the other 99%.

THE HAPPY COOKER
That was the name of one of my businesses and oh, come on, Little girl chefI know guys cook, too.

FrittataBacon and Potato Frittata

Makes 4 servings

8 large eggs

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil, parsley, or tarragon

3 tablespoons grated parmesan

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

6 slices bacon, chopped

1 pound potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

1 small onion, or more to taste, chopped

2 garlic cloves, or more to taste, chopped

2 to 3 cups spinach or arugula, coarsely chopped

1/2 cup chopped roasted peppers, or to taste

3 ounces sliced Provolone (5 to 6 slices), optional

Preheat broiler.

Whisk together eggs, basil, Parmesan, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl.

Cook bacon in a 10-inch heavy skillet over medium heat, stirring, until crisp. Transfer bacon with a slotted spoon to a large bowl then pour off all but 2 tablespoons fat.

Add potatoes and 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and pepper to skillet, and saut over medium-high heat until golden, about 3 minutes. Cover skillet and continue to cook over medium-low heat, stirring a few times, until potatoes are just tender, about 3 minutes more. Transfer the potatoes with a slotted spoon to bowl containing the bacon.

Add 1 tablespoon oil to skillet and saut onion and garlic over medium-high heat until pale golden, about 4 minutes, then add spinach and saut until just wilted.

Gently add the potatoes and bacon, the roasted peppers, and remaining tablespoon oil into onion mixture, spreading it evenly.

Pour egg mixture evenly over vegetables and cook over medium-high heat, lifting up cooked egg around edges with a heat-proof rubber spatula to let uncooked egg flow underneath, 2 to 3 minutes. Reduce heat to medium and cook, covered, until it appears mostly set, with a moist top and center, 3 to 5 minutes more.

Remove lid. If using Provolone, broil frittata 5 to 7 inches from heat until set, but not browned, 1 to 2 minutes, then top with an even layer of cheese and continue to broil until browned and bubbling, 1 to 3 minutes (watch carefully).

If skipping the cheese, broil frittata until the top is lightly browned, 1 to 3 minutes (making sure it doesn't burn).

If using a nonstick skillet, slide the frittata onto a serving plate. If using a cast-iron skillet, cut and serve wedges directly from the skillet.

VISIONARY VOLUNTEERISM

Visionary - adjective (esp. of a person), thinking about or planning the future with imagination or wisdom

People Touching PeopleI speak of volunteerism is my speeches. I tell stories to inspire and challenge audiences to volunteer as individuals, as responsible business and community leaders. as parents/grandparents, and to get their children involved early. By the way, volunteerism is the number one way to raise self-esteem. What are you doing in this visionary effort? Each month I will give you a link to a site where you can volunteer. Please send me a link to your favorite volunteer opportunity to post.

 www.buildabiketeambuilding.com

I had the opportunity to participate in a build-a-bike event this month when I was at my Vistage Chair retreat in Lake Geneva, WI. As part of an exercise to build trust and bonding, each team of five was given a bike to put together. When we finished, the bikes were given to impoverished children. Each team had the name of the student who would receive it. Ours was Dylan, and so we wrote him a letter about us and about building the bike for him. It was a fun

Dylan, far left

activity for us with the heartwarming benefit of knowing Dylan and three other children would have a

bike, something their families couldn't afford to give them.
