Happy Valentine's month! I am a sucker for this particular holiday, a true, sappy romantic. TMI?
Reflecting on January...I don't have a lot of business photos to share as January is the month I typically take a sabbatical, and vacation...and did I ever!
I always head to my Florida digs after the holidays but cut it short this year so I could attend my
National Speakers Association Illinois
chapter (right) and be their opening program. Instead of a formal presentation, we did "Up Close and Personal" with...moi! The turnout was fantastic, and it was simply open Q and A about the speaking industry for about five hours. I had a blast!! On to Atlanta to one of my favorite clients, Genworth Financial, where I shared the platform with the popular author,Daniel Pink (below) whose current book Drive is a best seller and read by most of my Vistage members. Then....VACATION! Each year I go on vacation with my BFF from Wales, Chris Leach, who I met over 20 years ago when I spoke at Million Dollar Round Table. We spent a week of sheer relaxation at Pueblo Bonita Resort in Mazatlan, Mexico. Here's our grueling daily schedule: enjoy the scenery, work out, sun, spa, dinner and sleep for SEVEN whole days. It was bliss. Then I finished the month in the opposite way with glamour and glitz at the W Hotel South Beach in Miami. Here we are (below) at my favorite restaurant on the planet, Barton G. Kicked off February with a sold-out Speakers School but the lovely Chicago weather left three people unable to get here. Still, the group was awesome in every way and came from all over the U.S. There were Vistage members, a Vistage chair, professional speakers, corporate execs and key employees, all looking to improve their presentation skills and in the process have some fun...definitely fun! |

I capped off my series of three presentations for Catalyst Ranchin Chicago, THE most unique meeting venue ever. We had another packed house to hear my program, You've Got Personality, which utilizes the DiSC profile personal assessment tool. Here's a photo of the lovely group of "I's" doin' their "thang" (right), and Sam, my fabulous Director of Everything, and me, making sure it all went well.
Now go eat up those chocolates left over from Valentine's Day! |

Be Bold and Win the Sale: Get out of your comfort zone and boost your performance
by Jeff Shore
There are almost as many books on sales as there are shoes in my closet. So why this one? Because it's different! Because Jeff Shore is different! Because Jeff Shore thinks different! And because his approach to sales is in alignment with my approach to life.
As a speaker and coach I challenge people to get into their "discomfort zone" and Jeff in his unique style challenges his readers to do the same. He believes passionately that when you get comfortable with being uncomfortable you will become the bold sales professional you have the capacity to be. He challenges your boldness with questions, exercises, and specific techniques to prepare, to evaluate and to take action.
Be bold...go get this book!!

A New Tool for Professional Speakers
I usually write my posts for business people. This piece is targeted more narrowly at just professional speakers, or anyone in front of an audience who wants to easily capture the names and email addresses of attendees (on a consensual basis, of course).
The tool is called KiwiLive.com. Go there now, ideally using your smartphone (for the typical experience) and enter my keyword "social" (without quotes).
You'll be prompted for your name (optional) and email address (mandatory). Once you provide this information, you'll get a screen to download my social media for business handout and/or watch any of my 23 social media for business video segments... for free.
That's the incentive. Give something (valuable content) to get something (audience email addresses). Maybe you'll give away a discount code or have an iPad drawing instead. You get to decide.
In addition to being granted mobile access to my content, you'll receive an email with my contact card and links to my handout and videos, in case you want to access them from your desktop... or share with coworkers.
By the way, you'll also see my LinkedIn profile, Google+ page, and Twitter feed. As a speaker, you get to configure KiwiLive to show what you want to share, and to collect what you want to know (people's titles, company names, key questions, whatever). The main question is, "What keyword (AKA kiwi) will you choose?"
How cool is that? As a speaker, you'll pay just $10 per month for this fabulous service and connect with far more of your audience today and tomorrow. Imagine what that could worth!

Shrimp Scampi with Linguini
1 pound linguini
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
2 shallots, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Pinch red pepper flakes, optional
1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup dry white wine
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup finely chopped parsley leaves
Put a large pot of water on the stove to boil. When boiling add a couple of tablespoons of salt and the linguini. Stir to make sure the pasta separates; cover. When the water returns to a boil, cook for about 6 to 8 minutes or until the pasta is not quite done. Drain.
Meanwhile, in a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter in 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium-high heat. Saut shallots, garlic, and red pepper flakes until the shallots are translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper; add them to the pan and cook until they have turned pink, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the pan; set aside and keep warm. Add wine and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons oil. When the butter has melted, return the shrimp to the pan along with the parsley and cooked pasta. Stir well and season with salt and pepper. Drizzle over a bit more olive oil and serve immediately.
