Mark Duncan, Director of Community, College, and Government Relations with Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, recently turned over the United Way of Greater Williamsburg (UWGW) Board President position to Jake Liebler, Co-Owner of  LaRS Group in Williamsburg.

UWGW appreciates Mark's considerable commitment and service to UWGW over the past several years. Prior to his role as Board President, Mark was a Campaign Cabinet member and Campaign Cabinet Chair.

UWGW looks forward to a successful year with Jake as Board President. Jake has been a volunteer with UWGW since 2008 participating on the Finance Committee from 2008-2013, Campaign Cabinet in 2013, and Chair of the Campaign Cabinet in 2014.

UWGW welcomes new members to the UWGW Board and Board members returning for another term.

Much thanks to Retiring Board members for their many years of service to UWGW: Past Board President, Marshall Warner, and Bob Mandala.

2015 Community Investment
In 2014, the UWGW Campaign raised more than $1.4 million dollars for the Greater Williamsburg Community. The UWGW volunteer Community Investment Committee (CIC) reviewed funding applications in January and February 2015 and made recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors in March. The CIC reviews applications so that campaign funds are invested in programs to effectively meet community needs as they relate to health, education, and financial stability.

This year the UWGW Board approved awards for 25 local programs provided by 15 local non-profit agencies agencies.  In this way United Way is working towards a healthier, stronger, and more connected Greater Williamsburg Community.

Volunteer Celebration
On March 25, 2015, 145 UWGW volunteers and staff celebrated the great work done for the Greater Williamsburg community in 2014.  The event was held at Double Tree Hotel and sponsored by Double Tree Hotel and Chesapeake Bank.  Volunteers enjoyed lunch while Executive Director, Sharon Gibson-Ellis, past Board President, Mark Duncan, and new Board President, Jake Liebler, recognized outstanding UWGW volunteers.

UWGW and the United Way Community Resource Center (CRC) rely heavily on volunteers throughout the year to serve the community. Volunteers serve as receptionists or life coaches at the CRC, participate on a committees to support the UWGW Campaign and Day of Caring, and assist with special events such as the Monthly Food Distribution.
