2014 Christmas Program

Each year, the United Way Community Resource Center participates in an Annual Adopt a Family Holiday Program. Resource Center staff assemble a list of families that are in need of assistance and match them to individuals and businesses to provide gifts and food.

This year individuals and local businesses adopted 70 local families.
2014 Food Pantry

In 2014, the United Way, in cooperation with the Virginia Peninsula FoodBank and local sponsors, began operation of a monthly food pantry to serve members of our community struggling with food insecurity. The food pantry provides fresh and shelf-stable produce, meats, and breads to more than 130 families each month.

Yankee Candle Flagship store on Richmond Road has been a big support for the United Way Community Resource Center.  They conducted a Coat Drive in October and a Food Drive in November that yielded 480 pounds of food.  Stop by any time before December 31st to 'Make a Wish and Give a Wish' by tossing a coin in the fountain. All coins will go to United Way of Greater Williamsburg to help the Williamsburg community.

Thank you to WAWA on Merrimac Trail for their continued support throughout the year.  WAWA donates food to the Community Resource Center (CRC) and other local partners to feed those in need.

Special Recognition

We'd like to thank the "Geezer Movers" from King of Glory Lutheran Church for volunteering on a regular basis to move furniture.  Furniture donated to United Way of Greater Williamsburg benefits the Housing Collaborative and Re-Entry Program.

United Way Holiday Celebration

On December 14, 2014, the United Way of Greater Williamsburg took time to honor and celebrate 10 men who are part of the United Way family as participants in a redemptive housing program. On this day, program participants, United Way staff, mentors, and supporters gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our program participants. United Way of Greater Williamsburg is privileged to serve community members who have confronted and are working to overcome many obstacles in their lives. We recognize program participants as role-models and examples of what can be accomplished when dedication, resolve, and community commitment come together to work toward a healthy and stable future.

Year-End Giving
Makes a Difference

When double checking your holiday shopping list, don't forget your year-end donation! Gifts to United Way of Greater Williamsburg are an investment in your community. Last year United Way allocated funds to more than 25 programs serving residents in Greater Williamsburg. Programs include support services for adults with developmental disabilities, emergency shelter for abused women, scouting programs for youth, child care and infant development programs for children and parents, adoption services, support services for seniors, tutoring and mentoring for adults with literacy challenges, emergency supports for persons facing personal and financial challenges, and transitional housing for persons at risk for homelessness.

The United Way of Greater Williamsburg thanks you for joining our mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of people and community.

Happy Holidays!
