Spring Wild Flowers
The Joys of Spring
April 2015

Slainte  !

It's been a trying month so far. Some wonderfully good - like our day at the NJ Folk Festival! What a bright day with so many good people stopping by. And some very sad - like the passing of my father. So things have been a little crazier than the usual crazy.

But we travel on, and we've got so much coming up. It's going to be an amazing spring and early summer. We hope you'll come along for the ride!

Giving to the Trees
Each month we've been taking a portion of our proceeds to different charities. We've helped the horses at Rivers Edge Horse Sanctuary. For February and March we howled for the wolves at Lakota Wolf Sanctuary.

For April, we celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day by giving back to the National Arbor Day Foundation.

How many trees can we plant this month? For every like, share,  retweet, comment, newsletter sign up, order and every interaction, we'll make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, which helps plant trees all over the US and the world. Share the news and keep those trees growing.

Spring has Sprung!

All it takes is just a little warm weather. Suddenly the yard is alive with all the wonders that spring can give.

Little tiny violets are bursting our everywhere. Not only do there small purple flowers brighten up the drearier days of spring, but they are also so good for you. They make a beautiful jelly. The leaves and blossoms contain salicylic acid, a pain reliever in aspirin. A warm tea made from them will help ease aches and pains. I've dried and powdered them for a soft and refreshing body powder. Violet Vinegar can be used in baths, salads, and event a hair rinse. I even have some other interesting plans for the bounty this year - a violet glycerine to use in some of our skin care products. Maybe a nice body butter?

Then there are the plentiful and fanciful dandelions. They are the stuff of childhood play - as well as the stuff of nutritious salads, delicate teas, and fritters.

I've already started collecting my plantain,  the lovely leafyness that makes wonderful poultices. It's also an ingredient in some of our infusions - Armid's Salve for Gardeners, Queen of the Pirate Seas Water, and some of others. It's great for treating itches and bug bites.

Then there's chickweed, sweet woodruff, ground ivy, and others stretching forth. People who like and strive for those perfectly manicured lawns would start to twitch looking at my yard. But I'll just give them a little violet and lavender tea pulled straight from the front. That should help.
