Here comes Autumn!
|
September 2014
|
Slainte !
Although it seems like there are any number of fairs and festivals throughout the year, the on coming Autumn appears to be bursting at the seams! We've packed every weekend with some of the best events in New Jersey. We look for events that we'd like to go to, even if we weren't vendors there and we've found some wonderful ones.
You never know what the Autumn weather will bring in New Jersey, but there's the promise of cool, crisp and fun. There's still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy nature. Happy Autumn! Cindy and Joanne |

September is Apple-licious
As much as October brings to mind pumpkins, September is all about the apple. At least for me. They such a versatile fruit, and so full of fiber and nutrients. And the smell fabulous! Did you know....
Apples are fat free and only 80 calories.
The science of apple growing is called pomology.
Apples are a member of the rose family.
Some apple varieties can be as large as a grapefruit.
Apples's float because 25 percent of an their volume is air - that's why they are so much fun to bob for!
The first apple trees in the United States were planted by the Pilgrims in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Over 2500 varieties of apples are grown in the United States, 100 are sold commercially.
There really was a Johnny Appleseed, and during the 18th and 19th centuries he spread apple seeds from coast to coast. He did this for about 40 years.
That lovely apple scent comes from the apple skin.
If you're thirsty, have an apple. They are 75 percent water.

Cool Days in September
September is such a wonderful month for so many reasons. The wonder season of Autumn is coming, with cooler days with bright sparkling sunshine. The days may be getting shorter, but there's still enough to make us smile.
There are lots of other cool things about September. Here are some of them.
September is Honey Month!!!!!! I love honey. We use it in so many of our products, and I love to eat it and mix it with all kinds of things. This site gives you all the scoop on honey, and some great recipes!
It's also National Mushroom Month. Fresh, stuffed, grilled or added to any number of recipes, this is one fungus that I'm glad to have in my fridge! It's great to see so many varieties in the stores now. A wonderful taste with great nutrition. What's not to love!
Friday, September 19th, is probably one of my favorite days of the year. It's Talk Like A Pirate Day! The Official Talk Like A Pirate Day website can give you all scoop to sound all piratey. What a fun way to liven up your conversation throughout the day.
Saturday, September 20th is Coastal Clean Up Day. It's been a busy summer along the shore, and things still keep washing up from Stupid Storm Sandy. You can check with the Barnegat Bay Partnership, Friends of Island Beach State Park, Save the Bay and other organizations to find out if there are any clean up events going on. Or take a walk along your favorite coast and do some clean up while you walk. You'll get some exercise and keep our coastline looking great!
Monday, the 22nd is Hobbit Day! Have 7 meals! Walk barefoot. Have an adventure!
And don't forget, Sunday, September 28th is Drink Beer Day!!!! (As if a special day was needed for that. ;) ) Interestingly, Monday, September 29th is International Coffee Day. Seems appropriate.
We end our month with Ask a Stupid Question Day. It's a day when you can ask anybody anything, no matter how stupid it might seem. After all - your just celebrating!
