Family Gathering Tradition - Sauerkraut &
Kielbasi
Don't let the Italian last name fool you. Or the fact that I'm a partner in an Irish themed company. I'm Polish (well, Polish, Irish & Hungarian). And for my family, it isn't a holiday gathering without kielbasa & sauerkraut. So yummy and so in demand. I thought I'd share the recipe with you. It's a great appetizer or buffet participant for a large crowd.
This can be cooked in one 6 qt dutch oven, or in a fry pan and then put into a casserole.
Ingredients:
-2 tbls butter -Medium yellow onion - sliced fine or diced (your option) -1 lb good Kielbasa - cut into about 1 inch or so hunks -1 lb good sauerkraut - lightly drained and rinsed -2 tsps caraway seeds -3 tbls tomatoe paste -3 bay leaves -1 can or bottle of a decent full bodied beer In the dutch oven, melt the butter and add the onion. Sweat the onion so it is just barely translucent. Remove from pan, leaving the drippings. Save in a dish on the side. Add the kielbasa cook until lightly browned. Stir occasionally. When browned, add the onions and all the other ingredients. Stir well, cover and let simmer for at least one hour. You can also cook in the oven at 300 for at least an hour. As long as it doesn't get too hot or too dry, it can simmer even longer. (If it gets a little dry, just add some water or more beer). Serve warm.
This is really good as a left over and makes a great sandwich as well. .

Where We'll Be...Come & See
The October hurricane that was Sandy has done serious damage to the shore area. Many of the fairs and festivals we participate in are in that ravaged area, so they've had to be cancelled. We've got one more left - and we're going to make it a good one!

Annual Ode to the Autumn Wonder - Pumpkin!
As many of you know, I'm a certified pumpkinaholic. I love the Autumn season because it brings us those magical, mystical and marvelous gourds. Carving them for Halloween is one of my favorite things to do. They are also a bountiful goodness of vitamins and nutrition.
Pumpkin is low in fat and calories. Both the seeds and the flesh are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. It contains alpha and beta carotene; Vitamins A, B, C and E; potassium, magnesium, calcium, copper, and phosphorous. They are great food to help fight disease and aging. The seeds are phenomenal sources of Vitamin E, iron, selenium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, niacin, protein, omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids. They're also provide anti-inflammatory, anti-fungals, and anti-parasitic. Pretty powerful for such little things. It's now easier to find Pumpkin seed oil as well, which can be used to add these powerful benefits to your meals. Not only is pumpkin great for your insides, it's also wonderful for your outsides! The enzymes in pumpkin help remove dead skin cells which promotes the growth of new cells. It's also great for fighting acne. When I'm cutting pumpkins to dry or roast, I always take a little and put it on my face for a quick little facial. We use either pumpkin seed oil or pumpkin in several of our products. Honey Pumpkin Face Mask is one of my favorites. It's a moisturizer and exfoliant for all skin types, Pumpkin see oil is featured in our Rhiannon's Midnight Moon Lotion Bar and Autumn Amber Whipped Sugar Scrub - now on special, through the end of November. What ever your pumpkin passion is - pies, cakes, cookies, carvings or skin care - take some time to enjoy it this hectic, crazy Autumn. I think you'll find it a boost to your spirit.

Make the Holidays Special - Shop Handmade & Local
It's the mission of all gift givers - trying to find that special gift for family and friends. Something unique and different. There's an easy way to do that. Look to your local stores and shops, or those in neighboring towns. Check craft fairs, boutiques and the Internet for local artisans. There you'll find that gift that is truly magic. Need some other reasons? 1. It's so much more fun! Whether it's going to a favorite shop, or discovering new ones in your town or places nearby, you'll have that wonderful feeling of the season. 2. Customer Service. When you are dealing with the owner of a shop, or the artist or craftsman that created the piece you are looking at, you get a broader picture of the history and feel for your purchase. It makes the gift that much more special. And it makes it much easier if there is a problem later on.
3. Supporting your neighbors, friends and the local economy. When you buy local, more money stays within the community. And if you buy a quilt from a neighbor who makes them, or a table try from a friend that is a wood turner, you keep the money flowing within the region. That's like keeping the blood flowing in the body. And that's good. 4. Unique gifts. Handcrafted wind chimes made from your grandmothers mismatched silver. Skin care products made with herbs grown in New Brunswick, tailored to your favorite scent. A silk scarf you've dyed. Candles with unique fragrances named after places you know. Those are gifts that are certainly not the same old - same old. Treasures are hidden in stores and shops around every corner.
5. Customizable. You love the sugar scrub - but would like a special fragrance. The candles are perfect, but can they be put in to a cherished jar or shell? It's a great stuffed animal, but can it have a blue bonnet instead of red? These are the kinds of things you can ask the artist when purchasing from them. You can't do that at a box store.

Happy Holidays !
These past few weeks have been beastly, to say the least. The storm that swept through New Jersey left homes without power, flooding, destruction to the barrier islands, and people unable to get to their homes. It's been tough, and it will continue to be for a while. But, we'll get through it. It won't be easy or fun, but if we lift up our heads from the sadness, we'll find little miracles, laughs and hope.
But the holiday season is upon us - and with it a wonderful sense of hope and caring. We're working on lots of exciting new things for the season and the coming year. We hope you'll continue to follow us so we can share them with you.
Slainte,
Cindy and Joanne
