The ABF's primary funding is provided by the

American Bar Endowment (ABE), an organization established by the American Bar Association to advance research and education on the administration of justice. The ABE is a charitable organization that provides opportunities for all ABA Members to get quality, affordable insurance for attorneys, through trusted insurers, while giving back to the good works of the legal profession.

Q: Where were you born and raised?

A: I was born in Covington, Kentucky and grew up in the inner city of Cincinnati, Ohio until leaving home for St. Gregory's Seminary in 1959 at age 14.

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be?

A: Pope Francis.

Q: What is the title of the last book you read?

A: ORTHODOXY by G. K. Chesterton.

Q: If you did not decide to go into law, what would you have done?

A: Become a Priest.

Q: There are so many wonderful organizations to donate money to. Could you please tell us a little bit about why you continue to donate to the American Bar Foundation at the Life Leadership Level?

A: The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation are the better lawyers in our profession.  It is a personal and professional privilege to be an ABF Fellow investing in the continuing empirical legal research and writing of the unique American Bar Foundation to enhance the body of legal knowledge the ABF produces year after year for the legal community.

Q: Anything else you'd like to share with us?

A: The American Bar Foundation has a rich history of significant research and writing largely made possible by the generous financial support of the American Bar Endowment and of The Fellows of the ABF. Continuing this support from one generation of organized bar leadership to the next is both our challenge and our opportunity.

Tell Us Your ABF Story!

We know that the ABF conducts meaningful research, so it is especially heartening when we hear how someone has used that research to advance justice.

A fascinating piece by Life Fellow Mark Dubois in the Connecticut Law Tribune comments on how ABF Faculty Fellow Rebecca Sandefur's research on access to justice affects his practice and the future of the legal profession.
