MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from a standard high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, supplemented by completion of a trade school electronic technician course or an apprenticeship; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess or obtain within two years from date of appointment a General Radiotelephone Operator License and APCO Telecommunications Certification. Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence.

Good knowledge of the basic installation, maintenance and repair of digital electronic equipment and the tools, testing equipment and materials used in the electronic field; good knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade; ability to diagnose and solve problems in faulty electronic equipment; ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, factory maintenance manuals and technical specifications; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and other employees; some knowledge of federal communications regulations as they apply to local jurisdictions.

Installs, maintains and repairs communications equipment, including radio, telephone and intercom systems, traffic monitoring equipment and control devices and associated systems and equipment; sets up video equipment to record government meetings; archives recordings; checks and repairs energy management systems, fire alarm and security systems and electronic doors; checks, maintains and repairs generators, closed circuit television (CCTV) and master antenna television (MATV) systems, and elevators; assists in repairing digital electronic equipment using diagnostic devices such as an oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generator, frequency counter, de-soldering tool, tracer and other specialized equipment; tests the operation of equipment after calibrating electronic devices to ensure proper and accurate equipment function; participates in performing preventive and routine maintenance on electronic equipment; reads and interprets schematic and wiring diagrams and factory maintenance manuals; performs related work as required.
