Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a standard senior high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, completion of an apprenticeship or trade school program in automotive body painting and repair, and a minimum of one year journeyman level experience in automotive body repair and painting; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Description: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Examines damaged vehicle to determine repairs needed and parts to be replaced; estimates cost of each job; operates large wrecker; removes dents from car and truck bodies, fenders, hoods and grills; removes damaged parts and installs new ones; straightens frame and refurbishes rusted sections; prepares and paints cars, trucks and heavy equipment; installs upholstery, windshields and other equipment after repair work has been completed; maintains equipment in good operating condition; fabricates necessary parts; assigns jobs to be performed to helpers; suggests expenditure program as part of budget recommendation; orders parts and materials; assists in training new personnel; installs decals; replaces airbags; diagnoses electrical problems; performs related work as required.
