Help celebrate farmworker awareness week
According to the Association of Farmworker Opportunity website, farmworkers are exposed to dangerous pesticides for long periods of time during the work week. Each year, an estimated 1 billion pounds of pesticides are applied to U.S. farms, forests, lawns and golf courses. Pesticide applicators, farmers and farmworkers, and communities near farms are often most at risk of pesticide exposure and related illnesses.
Help protect farmworkers from harmful pesticides by donating new or gently used long-sleeve shirts . Simply drop off your donation of long-sleeve shirts at the Alabama Career Center located at 515 Springhill Plaza Court. Coordinates, collaborates, centralizes and ensures the continuity of special and seasonal events for the location that are well-organized, effective and efficient. Relieves the Director of Development of planning, coordinating, and implementing special events and other large community activities. Ensures that community resources are properly obtained and/or properly matched in order to meet special event needs. Recruits, cultivates relationships, trains, coordinates, and monitors the work of volunteers ensuring ample staff to meet program needs; prepares records and reports regarding the same; coordinates with public relations staff to ensure the news media and public receive a clear image of The Salvation Army programs, services, and special events.
Specific Skill Requirements and Essential Job Functions:
Knowledge of community agencies, organizations, and corporations within the local area; the principles and practices of special event planning and implementation; public relations and community cultivation; effective implementation of recruitment strategies; marketing and PR protocol and administrative management. Skill in marketing to a professional volunteer audience. Ability to implement guidelines, procedures, and policies in order to run effective programs; work with others to motivate them to give of their time and skills to The Salvation Army.
