Mobile United Executive Director

 

 

 

Position Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for providing supervision, administration, leadership, and coordination for Mobile United, Leadership Mobile, and Youth Leadership. The Executive Director reports to the General Chairman of Mobile United.

Job Responsibilities:

Supervision

  • Hire and supervise employees authorized by the Steering Committee Financial
  • Assist the Finance Committee in the preparation of the annual budget for Mobile United and its programs.
  • Identify and prepare grants.
  • Negotiate performance contracts with the City and the County.
  • Assist the auditor in preparing the annual audit.
  • Approve expense payments for Mobile United. Draw and countersign checks and enter into contracts at the direction of the Steering Committee.
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget.
  • Prepare and make bank deposits.
  • Post dues and contributions and prepare end-of-month contributions report.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement.
  • Prepare checks for payroll and accounts payable, obtain signatures, and distribute. Record accounts payable in ledger. Record checks and deposits in check register and balance bank accounts.
  • Assist accountant in preparing and filing quarterly tax reports.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly invoices for membership dues.
  • Approve expense payments for Leadership Mobile.

Program Administration

  • Assist the General Chairman in appointing chairpersons and members of various committees.
  • Assist the chairmen in recruiting members and planning each committees program of work.
  • Coordinate the activities and attend the meetings of the Steering Committee and the following standing committees: Advisory, Education, Government, Health Services, Natural Resources & Conservation, Public Safety, Race Relations, Social Services & Housing, and Nominating.
  • Ensure that the committees perform their functions.
  • Develop General Membership meeting programs and make all the arrangements.
  • Keep the members informed on community issues.
  • Prepare official correspondence and preserve all books, records, documents, bylaws and other communications of Mobile United. Enter into contracts as authorized by the Steering Committee.
  • Carry out other assignments made by the Steering and Advisory Committees of Mobile United.
  • Represent Mobile United and its programs in the community.
  • Maintain rapport with community and business leaders, elected officials, and the media.
  • Prepare promotional materials for Mobile United and its programs. Prepare a regular newsletter.
  • Prepare press release and press conference.
  • Prepare materials for general membership meetings, including handouts and name tags.

General Office Administration/Support

  • Purchase and order office supplies.
  • Maintain office equipment.
  • Take and transcribe minutes for Mobile United and Leadership Mobile meetings.

Development

  • Coordinate fundraising activities for Mobile United.
  • Refine and maintain the fundraising system.
  • Prepare solicitation letters, letters of thanks, letters for pledges.

Public Relations

  • Prepare fundraising information and materials for the Steering Committee of Mobile United.
  • Prepare publicity and promotional materials for programs.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Fairly advanced computer skills
  • Working knowledge of the community, its leadership and of group dynamics and processes
  • Experience in group facilitation, nonprofit boards of directors, working with volunteers, and fundraising
  • Flexibility to meet varying work demands
  • Bachelor's Degree required
