Survivor Profile: Doug Casterline

In honor of Men's Cancer Awareness Month, we would like to thank Doug for sharing his story.

With a three-week-old baby boy at home, cancer was the last thing on Doug Casterline's mind when he was diagnosed with Stage IV thymus cancer in 2006.

"Having a new born son added fuel to my fire as I struggled with the thought that I wouldn't have the opportunity to be a father for very long," recalls Doug. "I was in a real tailspin and [my wife] Roslynn was amazing at holding our family together."

Volunteer Spotlight: Marilyn Way

For sixteen years, Marilyn Way's cheerful spirit and friendly nature have helped CscVvsb in countless ways. As Volunteer Coordinator for five years, Marilyn worked hard to build a dedicated volunteer corps that provided thousands of hours' worth of help with events, front desk staffing, and office work. After her retirement in 2011, Marilyn continued to give back to CscVvsb, scheduling the front desk volunteers, interviewing potential volunteers, and doing front desk reception shifts herself.

Leaving a Legacy: David Wank

null
In honor of Father's Day we are sharing the story of David Wank and his family, who became active CscVvsb supporters after seeing how much the program helped David's father.

It was a simple and heartfelt letter from his father that motivated David Wank to become a supporter of the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara. David's father, Melvin, attended a CSCVVSB support group after being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 1998. Two years after his diagnosis, Melvin wrote a note of appreciation to his support group. Unfortunately, he was not able to send it, and David found the letter while cleaning out his father's desk after his passing.

Speakers Bureau: Helping to Spread the Word

Are you a CscVvsb participant looking for a meaningful way to give back? Whether you're a survivor or a family member, you're invited to join our Speakers Bureau!

Community Outreach is so important for CscVvsb - because if people don't know we're here, they can't get the help they need.

Speakers Bureau members share their stories with community groups and local companies to get the word out about what CscVvsb has to offer. The group currently meets twice a month.

Want to learn more? Want the Speakers Bureau to visit your organization? Please contact Suzanne Drace at 805.371.0417 or via email.
