New Photos: Daniel's Day of Magic

Magic was in the air on March 16 as CSCVVSB families gathered for lunch, face painting, and an enchanting performance by Dorian the magician.

It was all part of Daniel's Day of Magic, an annual event to celebrate the spirit of CSCVVSB participant and past board president Daniel Jacoby.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this event possible, especially David Jacoby (Daniel's father) and Corner Bakery for providing the food, Judi Bumstead for capturing the magic with her camera, and Dorian for dazzling us with his magic tricks!

If you would like to volunteer or donate to future special events, please contact Jessica Gavlik, Operations Manager, via email or at 805.379.4777.

Celebration of Hope: Lynn Buchanan

"I beat it before and I can beat it again." That was Lynn Buchanan's first thought after learning she had breast cancer again, 24 years after her first diagnosis. To mask her fear, she put on a happy face and tried to "auto-pilot" her way through treatment.

When she realized that "auto-pilot" was making her feel out of control and unable to communicate with her family and doctors, she knew exactly where to turn for help.

Help us honor Lynn at the Evening of Hope Gala on Friday, May 2! Click here for details.

Dear Cancer, It's Me: Teens Affected by Cancer Speak Out

On March 13, the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara hosted its 2nd Annual "Dear Cancer, It's Me" Teen Essay and Photo Contest Awards Ceremony. CSCVVSB reached out to 100 regional high schools asking students to "talk back" to cancer, through a written essay or a photo collection. We want to thank our generous sponsors who made this year's contest possible: Anthem Blue Cross, Amgen, Genentech, the Sun Valley Group and Pacific Beverage Company.

We were absolutely blown away by the strength displayed by all of the participants. It is our privilege to share the finalists' essays with you. Click here to read the essays.
