Cups of Courage: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras Comes to CSCVVSB!

The Cups of Courage project founded by Ann Hohimer made a stop at CSCVVSB in September, and it was a night to remember!

A creative group of breast cancer survivors and CSCVVSB participants had a blast decorating bras with all kinds of colorful flair. The resulting works of art made their debut at The Oaks Shopping Center on Oct 1 for Paint the Town Pink.

The bras are on display at CSCVVSB in Westlake Village until Oct. 16. We invite you to take it all in!

Looking for an Easy Way to Give in 2013?

If you are over 70 1/2 , did you know that the IRS allows you to roll over funds directly from your IRA to charity, free from federal income tax? The law currently allows you to roll over any amount from $1 to $100,000. Better yet, an IRA rollover gift qualifies for your 2013 required minimum distribution (RMD). This win-win option could help you lower your income and taxes for the year and avoid the financial penalty of not taking the RMD, all the while helping a cause you believe in.

CSCVVSB board member Michael Lohnberg is subject to the Required Minimum Distribution and encourages others in his position to consider the tax advantages of designating the required minimum distribution, or a portion thereof, to charity. Michael is retired from Blue Cross of California (now Anthem Blue Cross) where he worked in several capacities including VP Compliance and VP Corporate Auditing.

"If you are subject to RMD you can benefit by making a donation direct from your IRA, which in turn will reduce your Adjusted Gross Income, and therefore possibly your federal tax rate," says Michael. "A more recent consideration is that for higher earners, lowering your Adjusted Gross Income through an IRA donation could help you avoid the 3.8% tax surcharge associated with the Affordable Health Care Act."

As a CSCVVSB supporter, Michael is committed to making a difference for people affected by cancer. He has been involved with the CSCVVSB Board of Directors for ten years and counting, and serves on the Cancer Support Community National Affiliate Council.
