September Participant Profile: Jerome Davis

null
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and we are honored to share the story of Jerome Davis, an active member of our Prostate Cancer Networking Group.

When Jerome Davis was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005, he had plenty of questions. After a year of struggling on his own with treatment plans he did not feel were right for him, he found answers, and much more, at the Prostate Cancer Networking Group offered by Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara (CSCVVSB).

Leaving a Legacy: Tami and David Wank

null

It was a simple and heartfelt letter from his father that motivated David Wank to become a supporter of the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara. David's father, Melvin, attended a CSCVVSB support group after being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 1998. Two years after his diagnosis, Melvin wrote a note of appreciation to his support group. Unfortunately, he was not able to send it, and David found the letter while cleaning out his father's desk after his passing.

Cups of Courage, Sisterhood of the

Traveling Bras for Breast Cancer Awareness

null

While you're Painting the Town Pink, make sure you check out the Cups of Courage, Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras exhibit. Eight of our very own CSCVVSB participants had a hand in decorating the creative newcomers to this year's Cups of Courage!

Ann Hohimer, an experienced seamstress who lost her mother, aunt, and cousin to breast cancer, created Cups of Courage, Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras in 2008.

The eight new Cups of Courage will be on display at Paint the Town Pink on Oct. 1 (click for details), and remain at The Oaks for the entire month of October.  The entire original Cups Collection will be displayed from Oct. 1st to the 17th at CSCVVSB in Westlake Village.  On October 19th, Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center will showcase the exhibit at their 17th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event - The Power of Pink - at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
