8 Tips for Creating an Attitude of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and this e-news is all about gratitude. Here at the Cancer Support Community we're grateful for our participants, volunteers, supporters, workshop and group facilitators, guest speakers, and everyone who works to make a difference for people affected by cancer in our community.

According to an article in the New York Times, gratitude has been linked to better health, sounder sleep, less anxiety and depression, higher long-term satisfaction with life and kinder behavior toward others.

Here are eight simple ways to create an attitude of gratitude in your own life. From our family to yours, we wish you a Thanksgiving full of reasons to be grateful.
Celebrating Love in the Garden of Hope

November is the National Awareness Month for Lung, Pancreatic, and Stomach Cancer. This month on our blog we're featuring Dennis Stansell, a CSCVVSB participant and a cancer survivor.

Diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2007, Dennis joined a support group at CSCVVSB where he ended up meeting his wife, Cynthia!

Thank You for Opening the Door to Hope

Speakers Bureau Enforces Message -
No One Should Face Cancer Alone

Our gratitude goes out to the members of the Cancer Support Community Speakers Bureau for helping to get the word out about our services.

The CSC Speakers Bureau continues to build our community outreach. Fall speaking opportunities included POMS Insurance (Woodland Hills), CityScene Cable TV (Camarillo),

Stonebridge Church (Simi Valley), Saint Stephens Church (Granada Hills), Camarillo Kiwanis, Westlake High School,

Millikan Middle School (Sherman Oaks), Thousand Oaks Optimists, and three presentations to UCLA Social Work grad students.

Participation in health fairs for State Farm Insurance, Simi Valley Free Health Clinic, LA Water & Power, West Hills Hospital, Sage Publications, Community Memorial Hospital, Cheesecake Factory and Providence Tarzana Hospital have strengthened our connection to the people we serve.

Let's keep up the momentum! Contact Karen Eckhardt with your outreach ideas.

Thank You, Kendall!

Kendall is a little girl with a very big heart. Kendall's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 24 and was a member of Marty's support group 15 years ago.

Kendall decided to set up a lemonade stand and bake sale to raise money for the Cancer Support Community to help her mother celebrate 15 years of cancer survivorship.

The fundraising branched out from the lemonade stand thanks to Kendall's ingenuity and the generosity of Kendall's family and neighbors.

We should really let her tell you the story. Click here to read the letter she sent along with her donation.

We truly appreciate Kendall's good deed, and we want to thank everyone who contributed.
