| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by knowing "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow- ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.
Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me
Some might be daunted by the idea of living life according to "spirit." If you don't know our teaching, you might be wary of a place that calls itself a center for spiritual living. What's that all about?
It's about seeing one Principle in action and knowing that to the degree we live harmoniously with that Principle, we shall all achieve things hoped for.
This Principle is known as Cause and Effect--that we'll get out of life what we put into it. Master Teacher Jesus said that "as ye sow, ye shall reap." Dr. Holmes' experience led him to write "Life will be to us, what we are to it." That's the Law--the Principle.
How then shall we learn to work with this Law? How might we be so as to optimize our experience of life? Easy--be Love In Action.
Love In Action isn't a sweet, sentimental, mushy idea. Love In Action is growing in self-awareness so that when I think I'm doing my best, I realize I'm only doing what I can be bothered doing. Love In Action is encouraging others so that they know they're making in difference in life. Love In Action is not only praising others' work but also asking them if I can support their efforts. Love In Action is aspiring to give to life according to my highest and best values. This is simple but, perhaps, not easy. That's why we gather together to support each other as we, singly and together, walk toward a future that affirms good for all.
This is my favorite time of year in southern California because it's....wait for it...jacaranda time. Talk about giving something to life! For me, it's natures' way of being Love In Action. The beauty of these amazing trees, along with the bougainvillea, bottle brush, morning glory and oh so many other flowering trees, vines, and plants remind me that I cannot outgive my own nature. I am always re-inspired when I recall that simple truth.
Hold nothing back. Remember that you can never run out of ideas, or energy, or enthusiasm if you are giving from a place of value and love. Love is indeed, the givingness of self to life.
If we can make an honest effort to do that, to really give our best selves to life, we shall know love as well as success. We shall be living fully, healthfully and in accord with spirit. And all shall be well!
All is Well, Life is Good, We are Truly Blessed ~ John

Reviews
Sunday, April 14th was a great day at the Center. Rev. Edward Brown was officially welcomed as a Staff Minister. Rev. Brown was first licensed by Religious Science International some 25 years ago after completing Ministerial Studies with the late Dr. Tom Johnson. He pioneered the Crenshaw Church of Religious Science. When his work was complete there, he went on hiatus from official responsibilities. We are delighted that he is again licensed and now a part of our Staff. Congratulations Rev. Brown! | |

Previews
On Sunday, May 12th, the Venerable Kusala Bhikshu will be our guest speaker. Ven. Kusala Bhikshu is an American born Bhikshu (monk) ordained in the Zen Tradition of Vietnam. In 1979 Kusala became interested in Meditation, and found his way to the International Buddhist Meditation Center. In 1981 he took refuge, and accepted the five precepts of a lay Buddhist, and was given the name Kusala (skillful). In 1996 he received full ordination as a Bhikshu, and was given the name Thich Tam-Thien (heavenly heart mind). Along with Kusala's Bhikshu ordination he received a B.A. in Buddhist Studies from the College of Buddhist Studies in Los Angeles. Rev. Kusala lives and works at the International Buddhist Meditation Center in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles. He cares for the grounds, facilitates meditation and discussion groups, feeds the cats and the koi fish. Video Worth Watching
Bryan Stephenson: We Need To Talk About Injustice In an engaging and personal talk, human rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson shares some hard truths about America's justice system, starting with a massive imbalance along racial lines: a third of the country's black male population has been incarcerated at some point in their lives. These issues, which are wrapped up in America's unexamined history, are rarely talked about with this level of candor, insight and persua-siveness. CLICK HERE

Spiritual Mind Treatment
INFINITE SUPPLY
Sheila Hughes M.D.
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not not be room enough to receive". Malachi 3:10
There is One Power, One Presence and the mind of God is absolutely in all and through all. It has created the vast heavens with its stars and galaxies and that Substance also is within my very cells.
I am lavishly provided for by this source of Infinite supply. I release all thoughts, concerns or judgment of my current circumstances and I consciously choose the conditions I wish to experience which are rich and rewarding.
My work and prosperity are extensions of my thoughts, dreams and intentions. God is the source of my unlimited supply and thus there is never depletion. Always abundance. This idea circulates freely in my consciousness and thus in my world. Like Love, I have more than enough to share and to spare. As I focus on this, my thoughts are free and I release my word.
My Universe is abundant and I live in plenty; now. For this I am so grateful. And so it is.

Lessons Of Truth
CONVICTION IN TREATMENT
Rev. Marian G. Moon
What makes your treatments effective? It is the conviction behind your words. These represent inner beliefs concerning the principle of Mind. Anyone can use this principle when their belief about what is really true is clarified.
The Mind of God is all-knowing. It has no opposition. Therefore there is nothing to oppose it. It always knows the truth regardless of any appearance that seems to oppose it. The purpose of treatment is to know what is true. When we have doubt we turn to the truth, the truth of God's perfect knowing. We turn from deception and clear any doubt or resistance we feel. We clearly state this in our affirmations. We bring our conviction to a higher knowing.
For some, this faith comes naturally. For others it requires a definite change of consciousness. We work with our thought and belief until it measures up to divine reality. There is nothing of resistance in the universe to deny this but there may be some resistance in us which denies our wholeness. This amounts to a belief in some other power working against us.
Remember there is only One Power and that Power really has no opposition. In treatment we deny the idea that seems support the false claim. Until we learn to use our authority constructively we may unconsciously believe in some kind of opposition to our good. Remember God is the presence, power and mind that remains steadfast and clear. Because we are individualizations of the Mind of God we can use our authority to demonstrate any good we desire.

THE FINAL WORD
Praying
It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
