| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
ROBERT BLOCK
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for March 2013
Robert Block is not only a great volunteer but he's also a real "appreciator." He is a musician and always finds a sincere and supporting word to offer our wonderful guest musicians. As music is something he truly loves, he is a great help to our audio engineers. Most Sundays, Robert gets into roadie-mode and helps to strike the set. Setting up and taking down all the gear that's now required for our music program is very labor intensive--and Robert is there to help by doing some "heavy lifting." All this in gratitude for the great music experiences we enjoy so much. Thank you Robert. You make a difference!

| BOOKS WE LOVE |
Brene Brown became famous because of two talks she gave at TED Conferences. Her latest book is called Daring Greatly.
As the world did NOT end at the conclusion of the Mayan Calendar in December, why not enter the new year with a high and noble aspiration? This book is both inspiring and instructional and is sure to serve you well.

| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by knowing "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow- ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
Some questions have easy answers, like, "what's on TV tonight?" We know where to find the answer to that. Other questions have complex answers that may take a very long time to be revealed. And then there are other questions for which there are no simple answers at all.
One of those questions is "why are we here?" The best minds and the most gifted poets have addressed themselves to that question. The closest humanity has come to an answer question is still a conjecture. In the absence of a really satisfying answer the next best thing we can hope for is to discover how we shall live while we are here.
On the path that each of us takes as we discover ourselves, our gifts and our capabilities, we can always ask ourselves the how questions. If we undertake that as a practice we will be guided in ways of peace, creativity and love.
How do I want to relate to my family and friends? In love.
How do I want to show up in my work today? In creativity.
How do I choose to view the family of man? With peace.
How do I think of myself when I feel disappointed? With great compassion.
How do I view what's left of my life? With curiosity!
What inspires me about our community, in the broadest sense, is our desire to keep alert to new possibilities and to stay vitally interested in life. No, we are not a people waiting for someone or something to magically solve our problems. We are, each in our own way, busy creating the good we wish to see for ourselves and for all people everywhere.
In a world where our deepest questions may not have answers there is still a way to be fully engaged with life itself. Living in an openhearted way allows us to experience life in the best possible way. We may not know why we're here but as for how we shall live, the answer is always, as best I can.
All is Well, Life is Good, We are Truly Blessed ~ John

Reviews
March was a busy month for the Center and its leadership. On Friday and Saturday, March 21st and 22nd the Board enjoyed its annual retreat at Mary & Joseph Center in Rancho Palos Verdes. It was a wonderful, easy, gentle time and a great deal was accomplished.
During this meeting (and pending affirmation by the congregation during Annual Meeting) the Board "self-selected" the officers. They are: Terry Dadd, President, Edward Brown, Vice President, Brian Daly, Treasurer, Elizabeth Dadd, Secretary, with Sheila Hughes (not pictured) and Bryce Malek, At Large members and John M. McLean, ex officio.
Prior to the Annual Meeting, Rev. McLean announced the 2013 Ministry Honors. This year, the honorees were
 |

for long-time service
Rev. Frank Fischer
|
 |
Light Expressing Honor for "walking the talk"
Mr. John Miranda
|
 |

In addition, Rev. Marian Moon and Miss Jody Carter received Practitioner Emeritus recognition from the Centers for Spiritual Living, Golden Colorado, for exemplary, long-time service to the field. The 2013 Annual Business Meeting was held immediately after the Celebration. The 2012 Annual Gratitude Report was distributed to the attendees. President Terry Dadd gave an informative report on the financial position of the Center as well as comments about our past, present and future. Rev. McLean shared ideas about our community and its evolving culture and the possibilities that remain untapped for us. Ms. Csynthia Savage was recognized for her unique contributions to our Center throughout her 25 years of Board service, now come to a close. Fittingly, she gave the closing treatment for the meeting, expressing, gratitude for all that has been and for all that is yet to be. Many thanks to Mrs. Rubye Mills, Mr. Joe Price, Dr. O. Neill Foster, Rev. Frank Fischer, and Rev. Tricia Klink for each contributing to the success and ease of this meeting.
- Easter Bonnets, Sunday March 31st -
While the ladies have surely won-the-day with their millinery
creations in past years, we have to give the nod this year to our own Rev. McLean (yes...he is writing this as well...can you say "conflict of interest"?) From now on, don't be shy. Let's get some head-wear going on at CSL-LA next Easter. Get out those hot-glue guns and get busy! It's not too soon. (Believe me)

Spiritual Mind Treatment
I PUT LOVE FIRST
Debra Swihart
The Divine Presence is everywhere. It is here now responding to my conscious belief. I impress the Divine substance with a conscious belief in Love and the power of Love to create my life.
I put Love first. I have all I need. I release any thought that this is not easy in the area of money. I release any belief that may be entrenched in my thinking by unwanted past experiences. I believe in abundance and unlimited supply.
I know who I am and accept my talents and their value. I accept a life experience that reflects the ease and flow of all good things without limitation. Love is my bottom line. I have no fear of scarcity for I embrace the abundance that is all around me. I see my way through any lack I may have known to ample demonstration of compensation.
I am in the flow of Good. I enjoy my life. Creative expression is a continual delightful dance with the muse. I ride the ebb and flow fearless and confident. The fruit tree that will forever bear fruit reminds me who I am and is a model for my divine nature. I know why I am on earth and my purpose. My actions are guided by good orderly direction. I embrace successful outcomes.
I release these words grateful for endless opportunities to express God, give and receive love, and experience abundant supply. I have enough of everything I need and enough to generously share. And so it is

From The Perennial Philosophy
I AM the Self that swells in the heart of everything,
I AM the radiant sun,
I AM the mind,
I AM consciousness.
I AM the source of all that shall be born,
I AM time without end,
I AM the beginning, the middle, and the end.
I AM the knowledge of all things,
I AM glory, prosperity, beautiful speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and forgiveness.
I AM the strength of the strong I AM the purity of the good.
Whatever in this world is powerful, beautiful for glorious, is but a fraction of the power and glory that is - I AM.

Lessons Of Truth
SPIRITUAL AWARENESS
Rev. Marian G. Moon
"Bring back to my remembrance the glory I had with thee before the world began" is a statement attributed to Jesus when seeking to return to that perfect state of being... a state of pure awareness of God. It is an eternal spiritual reality.
Healing occurs when this awareness becomes manifested in an individuals consciousness. Dr. Holmes tells us that there is a spiritual pattern at the center of everything. Because it was implanted by Spirit it can never be uprooted but may appear to be covered by a false sense of Reality.
Treatment is simply a process we go through to uncover our spiritual nature. Once this occurs nothing needs to happen except complete and unconditioned acceptance of that which always has been.
To build this kind of conviction we keep attuning our thought with the highest concepts that resonate to spiritual aware- ness. The universe can only give us what we take. Since this is a thing of consciousness the universe gives us what we are aware of. In consciousness we go back to the glory we had with God before the world of conditions and experience took over. In other words, we re-unite the soul with Its Source. We come to an awareness that God's pure spirit is right where we are and is the only activity of consciousness. This revelation comes through faith in the power of Spirit made manifest through spiritual awareness.

THE FINAL WORD
When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others. Inner peace is not found by staying on the surface of life, or by attempting to escape through life through any means. Inner peace is found by facing life squarely, solving its problems, and dealing as far beneath its surface as possible to discover the verities and realities.
Peace Pilgrim
(July 18, 1908 - July 7, 1981) born Mildred Lisette Norman, was an American pacifist, vegetarian, and peace activist. In 1952, she became the first woman to walk the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in one season. Starting on January 1, 1953, in Pasadena, California, she adopted the name "Peace Pilgrim" and walked across the United States for 28 years. |
