| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
BUNNY HULL
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for FEBRUARY 2013
Bunny Hull is one of a small group of original Founding Members. Since the very beginning Bunny has been of service to this ministry.
She (along with Rev. Keith Cox) began a youth program when we had several small children in the congre-gation. She has written numerous songs and "given" them to the ministry. She has always said "yes' when she was asked for help and continues, as you all know, to be a vibrant, loving and tune-filled presence. Bunny knows of the value of giving and, we are sure, feels that our Center is one of the best parts of her life in Los Angeles. For all the ways you show up for us-- thank you, Bunny. You Make A Difference!

| BOOKS WE LOVE |
Deepak Chopra is the very definition of a "prolfic author." He has written scores of books on a variety of spiritual topics. His latest book is simply titled "GOD".
We are using this book in our latest class on the history of New Thought. Even though it does not focus on New Thought per se, he has chosen to write about the mystical experiences of ten historic people. As our movement has been referred to as "practical mysticism" we thought it would be wonderful material to read and consider as background for our study of 19th and 20th century New Thought pioneers. We love this book and think you will too.
|
| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by knowing "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow- ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
It was a wonderful privilege to be in Vancouver BC for four full days late in February. Vancouver is breathtakingly beautiful and is the very essence of a cosmopolitan city. What fun.
The reason for my trip was to participate in the Annual Meeting of CSL ministers from around our country and Canada. Many hundreds were in attendance. While the city was fun and it was great to catch up with old friends, the most important experience for me was to see the different ways the "Science of Mind" is being expressed.
What I came to realize as I listened to several fascinating speakers, is that even something like The Science of Mind can be experienced and expressed is a great many ways. This is always a good thing to be reminded of.
If we are not vigilant, we can become self-satisfied with our own world view. I believe that inherent in our Truth teaching is the injunction to keep expanding our awareness of The Thing Itself--to challenge our assumptions and explore new ways of experimenting with "the science."
Later in his career, Dr. Holmes wrote:
Do not adopt the letter of my teaching, but the spirit, and you will find, as I did, that you will begin to formulate a system that is true for you. I learned for me, and you must learn for yourself that you must develop your own faith and confidence
in your own interpretation of God, humanity, and the universe.
Several of the Religious Science ministers who presented at the conference demonstrated that they have adopted the spirit of our teaching, and that they have developed a faith of their own. They also boldly proclaimed, each in their unique way, their own interpretation and love of God, humanity and the universe. This was very inspiring to me.
With the experience still fresh in my mind and on my heart, I am daring myself to be more bold in my own explorations and exhortations. That means, that I promise you I will continue to dig deep for ever more personal and dynamic interpretations of our work, I will express my love of God, humanity and all of creation. And I urge you to do the same. Hurry!

Reviews
On the last Sunday in February we have were honored to say
"vaya con dios" to someone that we all really loved, Robert Snively. His memorial was attended by some fifteen members of his extended family and it was so gratifying to get to meet nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (four of them!)
Robert was an inspiration to us all. We saw him making greater demands on himself all the time, keeping his commitments to his tithing of "time, treasure, and talent."
We will truly miss Robert and we bless him on his way!

Spiritual Mind Treatment
The Divine Presence is everywhere. It is here now responding to my conscious belief. I impress the Divine substance with a conscious belief in Love and the power of Love to create my life.
I put Love first. I have all I need. I release any thought that this is not easy in the area of money. I release any belief that may be entrenched in my thinking by unwanted past experiences. I believe in abundance and unlimited supply.
I know who I am and accept my talents and their value. I accept a life experience that reflects the ease and flow of all good things without limitation. Love is my bottom line. I have no fear of scarcity for I embrace the abundance that is all around me. I see my way through any lack I may have known to ample demonstration of compensation.
I am in the flow of Good. I enjoy my life. Creative expression is a continual delightful dance with the muse. I ride the ebb and flow fearless and confident. The fruit tree that will forever bear fruit reminds me who I am and is a model for my divine nature. I know why I am on earth and my purpose. My actions are guided by good orderly direction. I embrace successful outcomes.
I release these words grateful for endless opportunities to express God, give and receive love, and experience abundant supply. I have enough of everything I need and enough to generously share. And so it is

Lessons Of Truth
LAW OF ATTRACTION
Rev. Marian G. Moon
The Law of Attraction although invisibly and relentlessly at work can manifest a correspondent of our thoughts. Dr. Holmes wrote: "Spirit makes things out of Itself; it manifests in the visible world by becoming the thing it wills to become." Ideas we entertain become an attracting force because as he also states "we are all emerged in an aura of our own thinking." Every thought, word and action has been attracting to us the kind of experiences we have. We have actually created these knowingly or unknowingly.
This actually puts us in charge of our lives. Since much results from our unconscious thinking we rarely realize how we've chosen different experiences on an unconscious level. But regardless of this we also have the power to change conditions when we desire something different. By changing our thoughts, attitudes and beliefs we can attract different conditions. This usually happens on a conscious level.
We take charge of our lives as we commence to think with conscious purpose. Conditions will correspond to our mental patterns because as Dr. Holmes said "All the power of the universe is with you".
Commence to know, feel and act as if this were so. The right mental attitude draws to us what we require. Commence to see your life as you choose it to be, deny any belief of opposition and be steadfast in knowing you are cause unto your experience.
Since the law of attraction corresponds to our mental attitudes and beliefs there is nothing in the universe to deny us good in any form. To raise consciousness we need only challenge old belief patterns and rise to new dimensions for clear thinking and new attraction to manifest.

THE FINAL WORD
Revival
Luci Shaw
March. I am beginning to anticipate a thaw. Early mornings the earth, old unbeliever, is still crusted with frost where the moles have nosed up their cold castings, and the ground cover in shadow under the cedars hasn't softened for months, fogs layering their slow, complicated ice around foliage and stem
night by night,
but as the light lengthens, preacher
of good news, evangelizing leaves and branches,
his large gestures beckon green
out of gray. Pinpricks of coral bursting
from the cotoneasters. A single bee
finding the white heather. Eager lemon-yellow
aconites glowing, low to the ground like
little uplifted faces. A crocus shooting up
a purple hand here, there, as I stand
on my doorstep, my own face drinking in heat
and light like a bud welcoming resurrection,
and my hand up, too, ready to sign on
for conversion.
