MAKING A DIFFERENCE
SHEILA HUGHES
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for December 2012
Since the day Dr. Hughes arrived at this Center, she has been involved. Not because some asked her to help out, but because whenever she saw a need, she simply stepped in and gave a hand. This is true in helping on Sundays, in greeting visitors, in working the Welcome Table and at class (sometimes twice a week). Sheila seems to embody that understanding that this Center is her Center and that working together to make things happen, is the way things happen! In addition to all of the above, as well as being in Practitioner Training class, Dr. Hughes has recently been invited to join the Board of Trustees--an invitation to which she said "yes". And we are glad.
Thank you, Sheila. You make a difference!

BOOKS WE LOVE
Brene Brown became famous because of two talks she gave at TED Conferences. Her latest book is called Daring Greatly.
As the world did NOT end at the conclusion of the Mayan Calendar in December, why not enter the new year with a high and noble aspiration? This book is both inspiring and instructional and is sure to serve you well.

OUR PURPOSE
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by knowing "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow- ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.
Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me
Year-end celebrations are very reflective and sentimental for me. And I'm OK with that. This year I've found myself reflecting on what one would call my "spiritual journey." When I first stepped into Dr. Walker's church in the late 1980's I was, frankly, a wreck. And it was there that I learned that I wasn't a wreck but that there was some part of me that always whole and well and free. Over time (and after many a class) I began to identify with that part of me. Other faith traditions have names for it: Krishna Consciousness, Buddha Nature, the Christed-Self. We call it the I AM.
I have learned, through this teaching, that I AM is my true, eternal self. Self! And when I allow that to be my "default setting" I experience life as it really is. And life, Life, is pretty amazing.
At some point, roughly ten years into my learning, I had an opening to an experience of what I would simply call Gratitude. That's when everything began to change. You see, up until that moment, I was treating so hard for all the things that I thought I still needed. But when I finally let go of the striving I found that I actually loved my life. I began embody the words that I'd been hearing for the longest time but had failed to understand.
The chief out-picturing of this embodiment was a sense and practice of generosity-something that had been missing in my life. I have come to know that when we really begin to practice generosity, then we know that we're truly on the path of transformation. Why? Because until one really accepts the unlimited and abundant nature of life, one cannot be really generous. One give gifts as tributes, pays their fair share of taxes like a fine and gives to the church as if it were a penalty.
Gratitude, embrace and embodied, is demonstrated as effortless generosity. I know that I am on the path of transformation because it is my pleasure to share. And I'm not the least bit concerned about how long the path is or where it might take me. All is know is that I continue to be inspired-really, deeply, inspired-by the dazzling acts of generosity that I see all around me. And if this is what transformation is about, then I want more of it.
As the new year dawns, I will begin by knowing that everything I need, I have. And I will dedicate this year to giving my gift. Only in that will my security be found and success experienced. Can we walk in this direction together? Will we walk, together, in this direction? The path is wide and there is room for all.
I wish you a very happy New Year.

Reviews
Christmas Celebration was simply lovely. Our own version of a "candlelight" service was, once again, touching and uplifting and filled with joy. This picture of Edward Brown and Rev. Tricia Klink seems to say it all (we think they're the perfect Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus!)
For those of you who brought Christmas gifts for the Toy Drive, we are sure that those gifts are being enjoyed right now, and will be for a good long time. Thank you.
On December 30 we also had a special ceremony of release and intention-setting. What a great day that was.
And in review, we want to give personal appreciation for our amazing Music Team. We have completed our first full year together and we have all shared in the unique joy that music brings to the soul. Thank you Jon Gilutin, Bunny Hull and our audio engineers, Jesus Ernesto Reyes and Bob Zwolinski. Thank you.

Spiritual Mind Treatment
I AM HERE ON PURPOSE
Edward L. Brown R.Sc.P.
The Power and Presence of God forever shines, inspires,
and uplifts Me. I am here for a worthy purpose, to give My
gift to the world. I allow Myself to be divinely guided by
the Infinite Spirit of God.
I radiate and fulfill the Love of God. I am here by divine
appointment, and I enjoy the sacred path that so beautifully
unfolds. I am divinely led and directed in an enlivening way
that is truly breathtaking. Any seeming problems I may
be facing, I turn over to God to help Me transform. I completely accept the greater Truth that is revealed and ready to manifest through Me. I am NOW willing to listen and fulfill My intention. I go far and wide and am always at the right place at the right and perfect time. I meet and connect with courageous, loving people who reflect and remind Me of My vision and support My worthy purpose.
I am grateful and I accept this great success. My good is available in its totality, and I am truly thankful.
And so It is.

From The Perennial Philosophy
Let nothing trouble you; let nothing frighten you. All things are passing; God never changes. Patience obtains all things. He who possesses God lacks nothing. God alone suffices.
Teresa of Ávila, (March 28, 1515 - October 4, 1582) was a prominent
Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelite nun, writer of the Counter Reformation, and theologian of contemplative life through mental prayer. In 1622, forty years after her death, she was canonized by Pope Gregory XV and was in 1970 named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI. Her books, which include her seminal work El Castillo Interior (The Interior Castle) are an integral part of Spanish Renaissance literature as well as Christian mysticism.

Lessons Of Truth
YOU ARE A PROCESS FOR LIFE
Rev. Marian G. Moon
Periodically people feel an urge for change or new expression. The beginning of a new year often awakens this idea in many of us. This normal process of spiritual beings is that irresistible impulse of Spirit to create by means of all individuals.
When we fail to experience our ability to create the new we are frustrated with our lives, limited in our expression and resist the possibly of greater good. Our potential wholeness is never limited unless we resist this creative capacity for life.
Dr. Holmes stated "You are the only person you can know intimately." The way we understand ourselves is through our ability to create new and meaningful expression for ourselves. This irresistible urge alerts us to become an outlet for the Spirit to manifest Its new expression through us. To open ourselves for the flow of new ideas we are challenged to take responsibility for the new expression. Remind yourself that you are one with an infinite Intelligence that forever expresses newness. As new ideas are revealed know that everything necessary for their manifestation is already included within the idea itself. Since the ideas come from an infinite source it already knows how to fulfill the idea.
Transcending any blocked idea is merely moving beyond the conditioned idea and expanding consciousness to a new dimension. Anyone can do this when they know they are one with the Infinite Mind and Intelligence forever seeking expression through their consciousness. Begin to know you are already a process of life.

THE FINAL WORD
It's dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you're feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. I was so preposterously serious in those days... Lightly, lightly-it's the best advice ever given me. So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair.
That's why you must walk so lightly. Lightly, my darling.
Aldous Huxley
