| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
KERRY STEIN
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for November 2012
Kerry has served in many ways but mostly we value him because he's the kind of guy who is always, always willing to help. There is nothing he hasn't helped with on Sundays. In addition to keeping commitments on the Book Table and with take-down on Sundays, he loves to treat for the congregants and the Center. What could be better than that?
Thank you Kerry. You make a difference!

| BOOKS WE LOVE |
Brene Brown became famous because of two talks she gave at TED Conferences. Her latest book is called Daring Greatly.
Assuming the world does NOT end at the conclusion of the Mayan Calendar this month, why not enter the new year with a high and noble aspiration? This book is both inspiring and instructional and is sure to serve you well.
|
| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by knowing "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow- ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.
Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me
The great global, winter holidays are upon us. Chanukah, Christmas, Diwali and Kwanzaa each carry energies of great joy. At heart, these days attempt to approximate something we deeply know ~ that God is Love and Love is the Self-Givingness of Spirit.
That Spirit is always seeking a way to express its Infinite Goodness by means of each one of us is not only "good news of great joy" but it can also be our experience. Our wish is that you will allow yourself to be open to this experience.
As we prepare of the holidays, we also turn our thoughts to all that has been accomplished this year. Our hearts are filled with thanks. Thank you for the gift you give others by your participation. Thank you for your treatments and prayers which heal and bless. Thank you for your financial support during the year. Thank you for standing for positivity, inclusivity, and the other life-affirming values that our Center and our teachings embody. Thank you letting God be God, as you.
In closing, we'd like to share a very grown-up Christmas list with you
Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. Oren Arnold
We look forward to seeing you on Sundays in December when we praise all that has been and look forward to a new year of blessings for all.
All is Well, Life is Good, We are Truly Blessed ~ John |

Reviews
Sherry Mandan has resigned her position from the Board of Trustees. After a decade of service as a Trustee and decades of service to the Center as a Practitioner, it's simply time to devote energies to new adventures. We totally support that choice as Sherry is working full-time and pursuing an advanced degree at the Pacifica Graduate Institute. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Thank you, Sherry!
Sunday November 18 was the day of our 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch. Elizabeth Dadd took the lead is cooking, coordinating, decorating and creating an amazing banquet-buffet. This year there was a raffle for all in attendance. Gifts ranged from a banana to brunch for two at Castaway Restaurant, from a box of Chicklets gum to a bottle of Mouton-Cadet wine, so everyone came away a winner! And indeed, everyone who knows the joy of service is a winner. Thank you Volunteers, one and all, who do the "heavy lifting" that makes our Center a Community.

Previews
Saturday, December 8th is our next service date at the Downtown Women's Center. Even though we are already fully-subscribed with volunteers for this "shift" there will be another opportunity for those who'd like to participate - March 23, 2013.
If you have not yet had the true pleasure of being of service in this way, please see Elizabeth Dadd or Sheila Hughes some Sunday.

Video Worth Watching
(This is still my favorite video of the year...take the time to watch this again if you remember it from the March Newsletter.)
Eric Whitacre TED Talk 2000 Voice Choir
What we are learning these days is that it is no longer so important to know about "what we can do." The important ideas are gathering around the question about "what we can do TOGETHER." One of the most beautiful demonstrations of what this means can be seen on a fairly recent TED Talk given by choral composer Eric Whitacre.

Spiritual Mind Treatment
I ACCEPT MYSELF AS I AM Edward L. Brown, R.Sc.P.
God is All there is and in this experience lies the Divine Intelligence of All. I am one with this ALLNESS, God.
In this moment, I recognize I am a PERFECT GIFT of God. No other
person expresses My life as effectively as I do. Whatever path I take,
no matter what choice I make, they are right for Me always. I am
capable of making My own decisions, going within to listen to the
still, small voice that resides within. I am My own person with
wonderful ideas and Spirit-inspired direction. I am healthy, prosperous, and surrounded by like-minded people because I choose this for Myself. This moment, nothing stands in My way as I pave My perfect path. I ACCEPT MYSELF AS I AM.
With inner peace and grace, I gratefully accept this as so. I walk
on solid ground, centered in Spirit and Truth. With utter knowing- ness, I release my word, knowing It Is So.
And So It Is.

From The Perennial Philosophy
I salute you. I am your friend, and my love for you goes deep. There is nothing I can give you which you have not. But there is much, very much, that, while I cannot give it, you can take.
No heaven can come to us unless our hearts find rest in it today. Take heaven! No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in this present little instant. Take peace!
The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy. There is radiance and glory in darkness, could we but see. And to see, we have only to look. I beseech you to look!
Life is so generous a giver. But we, judging its gifts by their covering, cast them away as ugly or heavy or hard. Remove the covering, and you will find beneath it a living splendor, woven of love by wisdom, with power. Welcome it, grasp it, and you touch the angel's hand that brings it to you.
Everything we call a trial, a sorrow or a duty, believe me, that angel's hand is there. The gift is there and the wonder of an overshadowing presence. Your joys, too, be not content with them as joys. They, too, conceal diviner gifts.
Life is so full of meaning and purpose, so full of beauty beneath its covering, that you will find earth but cloaks your heaven. Courage then to claim it; that is all! But courage you have, and the knowledge that we are pilgrims together, wending through unknown country, home.
Fra Giovanni Giocondo (c.1435-1515) was a Renaissance pioneer, accomplished as an architect, engineer, antiquary, archaeologist, classical scholar, and Franciscan friar. Today we remember him most for his reassuring letter to Countess Allagia Aldobrandeschi on Christmas Eve, 1513.

Lessons Of Truth
PURE POTENTIALITY
Rev. Marian G. Moon
There is something within every person that is absolutely unlimited-- a part of us that is never bound. That is the Real Self, our divinity, our spiritual wholeness.
What we are and what we can do is beyond human comprehension. There are no limits to our creativity. Our consciousness is ever-expanding, which means that our ability to be creative can never stop. What mind can conceive, and believe possible, it can achieve.
Each of us is on a path of self-discovery. Although some are not as yet aware of this, all are seeking to release themselves for greater self-expression and creativity. That part of us that is absolutely unlimited can never run out of ideas for expression. The Real Self or Spirit is all-complete and always perfect. The power within us is greater than we understand yet it is ready for our use and direction.
By expanding our consciousness of Self we can draw upon this power for infinite creative expression. There are no limits to possibilities but each of us must claim these for greater creative expression.
Deepak Chopra wrote, "Pure consciousness is pure potentiality, it is the field of all possibilities, it is infinite creativity." We should realize that we are all a part of this potential which needs us for Its expression.

THE FINAL WORD
When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with the flocks,
then the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal those broken in spirit,
to feed the hungry,
to release the oppressed,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among all peoples,
to make a little music with the heart...
And to radiate the Light of Christ,
every day, in every way,
in all that we do and in all that we say
Then the work of Christmas begins.
Rev. Howard Thurman, PhD.
