We are all thrilled that our farm is producing an increasing percentage of our organic produce, and I hope you're noticing that more and more of our colorful SimpliHealth Growers stickers are appearing on your meal containers - our way of saying that something we grew ourselves is in that meal!

Celebrity nutritionist Jackie Keller: Eight rules for permanent weight loss

There are hundreds of diet books available, each promising you its own version of weight loss magic. Add in the various slim-down supplements, concoctions like a laxative tea that has you running for the bathroom every 10 minutes and weight loss foods, and you can waste a lot of money without whittling your waistline. For a different  solution, we turned to celebrity nutritionist Jackie Keller, author of "Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast" (click to order).

   

 

Jackie has crafted eight rules for losing weight and keeping off the pounds:

  1. Limit alcohol and desserts to two servings per week.
  2. Each day, eat breakfast. Include complex carbohydrates such as whole grain oatmeal, one serving of protein and one serving of fruit.
  3. Eat every three hours, enjoying snacks such as piece of fruit and a small serving of protein.
  4. Eat modest amounts of protein and carbohydrates for both lunch and dinner. Enjoy two servings of vegetables          with each meal.
  5. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Enjoy one to three cups of tea or coffee daily.
  6. Exercise seven to 10 hours weekly.
  7. Get at least seven hours of sleep.
  8. Learn to manage stress with solutions that might include playing the piano, meditation or yoga.
