S.A.V.E.
S.A.V.E.'s New Acting Executive Director
Dear Members and Friends of S.A.V.E.,

I am pleased to introduce S.A.V.E.'s new Acting Executive Director, Julia Gardner. Julie comes to us after having served on S.A.V.E.'s Board of Directors as Vice Chair. She is a resident of London Grove Township where she has been a member of the Parks and Recreation Board since 2007. Currently, she also serves as a Trustee of Fairville Friends School.

Julie brings a strong background in non-profit management, having served as Founding Director of The Adele Lebowitz Center for Youth & Families in Washington, D.C., and most recently as Acting Director of Social Services at La Comunidad Hispana in Kennett Square.

"I am thrilled to have this opportunity," says Julie. "S.A.V.E. is at an important cross road. We have accomplished much in the past decade, but now must focus our efforts on several key issues at the core of S.A.V.E.'s mission. Going forward, smart transportation and its corollary in land use planning will be paramount in our work. There remains much to be done to transform Route 41 into a safe, two-lane roadway that complements the extraordinary scenery and conserved landscapes through which it passes. Our purview extends to other roadways in Chester County, where proposed widening and the replacement of historic bridges with larger and wider alternatives are the default positions of many elected officials. These antiquated policies are ill-informed and would foster sprawl and deterioration of our historic roadways, with negative effects on our stunningly beautiful countryside. I believe that S.A.V.E. has a vital role to play, reinforcing the achievements of area conservancies by promoting a roadway network that enhances and supports safety and conservation. In the past 12 years, S.A.V.E. has acquired technical knowledge of novel and safe roadway alternatives. As the Acting Executive Director I look forward to working with the S.A.V.E. Board and within our community to make this vision a reality."

Please join me in welcoming Julie to S.A.V.E. and in continuing to support our vital work.

Sincerely,

Betsy Gallagher
Chair, Board of Directors
