Federal Per Diem Rate Changes
for Wisconsin October 1st
August 15, 2014

Dear WH&LA Lodging Member:

Today, the federal General Services Administration unveiled their new Federal Employee Per Diem Rates for Lodging and Meals that will go into effect from October 1, 2014 until September 30, 2015. This is the maximum amount that Federal employees traveling for federal business will be reimbursed for lodging and meals, unless they have special supervisory approval or are part of a negotiated conference rate that was approved.

The standard "CONUS" rate for lodging remains at $83 statewide for counties not separately noted, and for meals and incidentals the rate remains at $46/day.

The primary changes for Wisconsin are:

  • Lake Geneva and all of Walworth County shifted from higher basic rates ($93) and an even higher seasonal rate ($129) down to the standard "CONUS" rate of $83 for lodging and $46 for meals year-round.  The WH&LA will look into options for pursuing restoring this to inclusion in the approximately 400 areas in the country with a "Non-Standard Area (NSA)" designation due to the severity of the drop that this reclassification imposes. Only five areas in the country shifted from NSA to "CONUS" rates status this year.
  • Sheboygan and Sheboygan County had a rate reduction from $96 to $93 in their June - August season.
  • All of the other NSA's experienced rate increases ranging from $2 to $5 either in their year-round rate or in at least one part of their seasonal rates.  This includes the counties of:  Columbia, Dane,  Door, Outagamie, Racine, and Waukesha.

The WH&LA, as a special service to our Lodging Members only, has created an updated WH&LA Wisconsin Federal Per Diem Rates Guide that denotes all of the new rates going into effect October 1st as well as additional information to keep handy at your front desk, with your sales person, and in your files.

Other information right from the source includes the GSA's Per Diem Highlights  noting how the rates are determined and the GSA's Per Diem Rates Look-Up Page.  You will need to go to the "Select by State" area, choose "2015 (effective October 1, 2014)" and then click on Wisconsin on the map to get to the Wisconsin page.

The GSA also provides the Breakdown for Meals & Incidentals at their website. Finally for your reference, the WH&LA 2013/14 Wisconsin Per Diem Rates overview is also shown for your  quick comparison.
