STATEMENT BY SENATOR JENNIE M. FOREHAND

My friends and supporters have been asking me which Senate candidate I believe should represent District 17. I am proud to announce my enthusiastic endorsement of my former colleague, Cheryl Kagan, who will best reflect my views and priorities in the State Senate.

There are many reasons to support Cheryl, among them:

1)     Cheryl's energy and commitment to getting things done have always impressed me. We need that sort of advocate in Annapolis who will stand up for women, families, and Montgomery County residents!

2)     Cheryl and I share a deep commitment to progressive Democratic values. Whether it's domestic violence, human trafficking, or gun control, I can trust that Cheryl will consistently speak up on the progressive side.

3)     Over my years of service, I've learned that the legislature functions a great deal based on relationships. Cheryl is well-known and well-liked from her 8 years as a member of the House of Delegates. Because she believes in teamwork and civility, I know she can work effectively with legislators and advocates on important issues.

For these reasons and many more, I am delighted to endorse Cheryl Kagan for State Senate. Cheryl is the clear choice, and I look forward to campaigning together toward victory in the June 24th Democratic primary. I strongly urge my friends and neighbors in Rockville and Gaithersburg to join me in supporting Cheryl.

Jennie M. Forehand

State Senator, District 17

Cheryl Kagan, a Montgomery County native and lifelong Democrat, represented the 17th legislative district in the House of Delegates for eight years.  While in office, she earned a reputation as a hard-working, effective, and independent-minded leader who asked tough questions on behalf of her constituents.  In addition to her service in elective office, Cheryl Kagan has lobbied to strengthen our federal gun control laws; defended women's reproductive choices; directed Americans for Democratic Action's Education Fund; supported the election of progressive, pro-choice Democrats; and, as a foundation executive, distributed more than $1,000,000 per year to local nonprofit organizations.  Kagan currently works as Director of Community Engagement for BBYO, an international nonprofit organization.
