WELCOME MAUREEN ROCKWOOD
After 35 years of service to NIS, Betsy Kaplan, Director of Education and Special Programs, has retired. As Amanda Galati, Early Childhood Coordinator stated, "Betsy has contributed so much to NIS and we are very sad to see her go but she is leaving a lot behind. Betsy's grace, warmth, spirit and positivity is woven into the fabric of our program and our team. She will continue to be present as we carry on the initiatives she started and honor the many lessons she has taught us."
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Maureen Rockwood, Director of Education, Curriculum and Instruction. Maureen holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and a Masters of Science and New York Certification in Special Education, as well as certification in Behavioral Science. Ms. Rockwood has over twenty five years of experience working with children and adults with a variety of learning and developmental needs. She comes to NIS after most recently serving twelve years as a district-wide Autism and Behavior Consultant.
Maureen states, "It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I join the NIS family as Director of Education, Curriculum and Instruction. I look forward to working closely with its students, families and staff and becoming part of the dynamic interdisciplinary team and tradition of excellence in education that is NIS."
