We hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Our Thanksgiving Feast was a huge hit with our NIS students.  Special thanks to Aaron Knoll, Kim Cowell, Dawn Frick, Kelli Burnham, Ashley Grills and Nicole Pelliccia for volunteering to cook turkeys for the big day! We have so much to be thankful for this year, as evidenced by the feathers on the turkey depicted below, each of which displayed things our NIS staff and children are personally thankful for this year. We at NIS are so grateful to share our days with so many wonderful children and their families.  We truly are one big family!

CHILDREN & FAMILY SERVICES
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your overwhelming support with the Thanksgiving Basket drive this year.  Special thanks to our Parent Council who put together a basket, and to NIS founder and former Executive Director, Claire Salant, who donated turkeys for each basket.  With your support and generosity, we were able to provide many families with a very Happy Thanksgiving!  We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

FUNDRAISING

The First NIS Craft Fair was a HUGE SUCCESS thanks to the overwhelming support we received from parent, student and staff volunteers!  We are grateful for the 40 vendors that drew in hundreds of shoppers, and to all those who came out to support NIS!

We are always open to new ways to raise funds and welcome your suggestions at our monthly Parent Council meetings. Our next meeting, as outlined on the calendar, is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 11th.  At this meeting, we will start planning activities for 2015!

First came Black Friday.
Then Cyber Monday.
And Now...
GIVING TUESDAY!

NIS has joined over 10,000 charities world-wide in helping create a national movement of GIVING on December 2nd.  Just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with shopping, we want GIVING TUESDAY to serve as a global reminder to give back to your favorite charities!

Please join us in keeping the spirit of GIVING alive this holiday season by spreading the word with your friends and family members to donate to NIS this December 2nd at www.niskids.org/donate.  The easiest way to do this is via social media, which is why NIS has joined the Twitter Universe.  Please follow us on Twitter, like our Facebook page (if you haven't already), and most importantly, remember us this GIVING TUESDAY! Please take a picture of yourself holding a sign stating that you are supporting NIS this holiday season and post it on your Facebook page or ours.  Feel free to use this sign or make your own!

NIS is a not for profit early childhood learning center that relies on the generosity of charitable donations to continue enhancing the programs and services we provide to students and their families.  NIS provides full comprehensive evaluations in all areas of development at no direct cost to the parent.  Tuition and transportation for children who are eligible for program are paid for by NYS Dept. of Ed. and Suffolk Co. Dept. of Health.  Donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Checks should be made payable to Friends of NIS and sent to NIS, 430 Sills Rd., Yaphank, NY  11980. Credit card donations can be made on our website or by calling Susan Cali, Director of Development, at 631-924-5583, ext. 128.

Don't forget to spread the word!  Together, we can make a difference!  No donation is too small.

Thank You!

SPANISH LANGUAGE STORY TIME
Research in early literacy has shown that children benefit from hearing stories in their home language.  We're excited to announce that with the help of Haydee Serrano, one of our wonderful volunteers, NIS has implemented a weekly Spanish language story time for NIS students whose primary language is Spanish.   Along with Chris Peterson, our librarian, the children will be entertained with stories, songs and finger plays in their native language.
