The New Interdisciplinary School

February Newsletter

We are excited to announce that the Richard J. O'Brien Foundation has awarded The New Interdisciplinary School with $30,000!  The Richard J. O'Brien Foundation honors the memory of Rich O'Brien, who passed away in September 2010.  Rich's friends and family have pulled together to continue his generous work with non-profit organizations serving children across Long Island.  Rich O'Brien had been a long-time supporter and friend of NIS throughout the years, and we are honored that the foundation has once again chosen The New Interdisciplinary School as a recipient of a portion of the proceeds earned at their annual Golf Outing held at the Southward Ho Country Club on September 23rd.  With this extremely generous donation, NIS will be able to enhance the many programs and services we provide to our students and their families, and we are pleased to do so in Rich's honor.

Dear NIS Friend,

January was an exciting month at NIS!  Students in the following AM classes had the opportunity to meet with Bumi, our Pet Therapy dog: Miss Katrina, Miss Linda A., Miss Kelly and Miss Brittany.  Pictures can be viewed by going to our school's picture site, password: niskids.

Many families also gathered together at Friendlly's to enjoy a meal and ice cream while helping NIS raise much needed funds for our school.  According to the General Manager at Friendly's, it was their most successful fundraiser to date!!!  Thank You!

Our school's holiday festivities were featured in the January 18th issue of This Week.  Feel free to view the article here!

We held our second Golf Committee meeting and are getting excited to start putting together this large fundraiser.  We are excited to have four new members on the committee, and hope to continue to gain more members. If you or anyone you know is interested in helping us make this event a success, please contact Susan Cali to join the committee or to learn about sponsorship opportunities.

The Winter Activities Special Event that was held at the end of Janaury was a HUGE hit!!  The children had so much fun participating in all the the winter themed activities we planned for them.  We hope you and your children enjoyed themselves!

HELP NIS TODAY!

NIS is a not for profit school that provides a range of therapeutic and educational programs for both typically developing and developmentally delayed children from birth to five years old.  Funding for our programs and services is provided by federal, state and county governments, as well as through fundraising.  The New Interdisciplinary School is a circle of people who envelop those we serve with warmth, enlightenment, and security.  We are a creative learning center for the community, for children with disabilities, and those who are typically developing.  Our commitment to provide therapeutic and educational services with love and the highest standard of expertise to all who come to NIS remains constant, strong, and deep.  Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today!
