Greetings!
Welcome to the new monthly news from North West Bay Probus. Your newsletter committee has decided that, as Sharon says in this month's President's Message, it's time for change.
You are looking at an updated form of newsletter - an e-News. It combines the power of the web with the simplicity of an email. No more large attachments or bouncing emails - no more need for your the editor to spend hours formatting news in cumbersome print-format.
And...we're looking for suggestions for a new name. Send me an email if you have an idea for a short, upbeat name that symbolizes this new format.
Happy Halloween to you all! Judy |

NOVEMBER 1st: Oceanside Health Centre in Focus
| | Is it too successful or misunderstood?
Possibly a victim of it's early success, a recent article in the Parksville Qualicum Beach News stated that there are mounting complaints about wait times at Oceanside Health Centre in Qualicum Beach.
A Vancouver Island Health Authority spokesperson stated that "they are bringing in a second physician to cover the busiest parts of the day" and explained that the Centre is an Urgent Care Facility and not intended to replace the general walk-in clinics or your doctor's office. The waiting times were perhaps a case of "more urgent cases that need to be seen ahead of less urgent cases".
We are very fortunate to have Sherry Coutts, Project Manager for the Centre, to speak at our meeting on Friday November 1st to tell us exactly what the services of the facility are, how to access them and why this new, integrated health care model is so different and exciting.

| President's Message | | What a beautiful season! If Spring is the time for renewal, Fall is the time for change. And in Probus, this is the time when we initiate change in our management team. We are seeing a definite trend in our club. In searching for club members to step up to fill next year's team, we found a common trait amongst many members - difficulty in committing full time to some of the Chair positions. The most frequent, and quite legitimate, reaction when we asked was "We travel quite a bit and cannot commit to being available for every meeting". |
| Keeping the Lights On | | Stephen Watson @ October Meeting
Stephen Watson concluded his talk at our October meeting with a caution for everyone to be prudent with our power use. He suggested that we know what we use (it can be checked daily online), think about how to become more environmentally aware and never take for granted our power production and transmission. Val Davies, Probus member and Vice-President of Tumaini Canada Board, says that Dr. Susan Wilson is an excellent speaker and she hopes that many members will come out to meet her.
