Stress Busting Ceiling Stretch

by Ryan Rocha BSc. RMT

Many people these days work in offices and have to sit for many hours at their desk job.  We may start out the day sitting straight, and focus on correct posture, but over time, our bodies get tired and the shoulders turn in, the neck drops down and the chest caves in.  This tends to cause aches and pains in our necks, shoulders and back.  To alleviate these symptoms, we need to take frequent mini-breaks- at least every 20 minutes.  Here are some easy steps to help us get through the work day!

1.    Stand up.

2.  Interlace the fingers, keep the arms straight with clasped hands pointing to the floor.

3. Breathing slowly, hinge from the hips, bending down vertebra by vertebra and slowly reach the hands down towards the floor as far possible without pain.

4.  As you inhale, keeping the arms straight, slowly start to come back up, moving the spine one segment at a time, eventually pointing the hands towards the ceiling and reaching your hands up as far as you can.

5.   Now gently bring arms and clasped hands behind your head opening up the chest and as you watch your hands bend the neck back feeling a stretch at the throat.

Now just shake the stress out of your body out moving the arms, shoulders, twisting the hips. Then take 3 deep breaths and you are ready to get back to work!

Test Spotlight

The Urine Toxic Elements test offers an accurate diagnostic picture of the toxic heavy metals that are in your system.  We use a chelating agent to encourage the release of metals into the urine before sample collection.  This allows us to differentiate if your heavy metal toxicity is from recent or past exposure.

Toxic heavy metals can be involved in aggravating a variety of health conditions such as arthritis, fatigue, digestive conditions, autoimmune conditions and more.

Toxic metal exposure can result from household piping, foods, environmental contamination, occupations in industrial settings, mercury fillings, pots and pans, and fish.

Please contact us for more information on this testing.

Detox for the Spring/Summer

By Dr. Erica Nikiforuk BSc. ND

Spring is in the Air!  Beautiful weather is finally upon us and what better way to kick start the season than feeling your best!

The benefits of doing a detox include:

-a chance to reset your metabolism

-improved energy

-better mental and physical performance

-improved sleep

-clearer skin

-reduction of toxins in your body

Here are Some Tips for Successful Detoxification.

1.  Eat the Most Powerful Detoxifying Foods.

These include beets (rich in betacyanin, a cancer fighting compound), brazil nuts (high in selenium, a detoxifying antioxidant), onions (high in sulphur which detoxifies the liver),  ginger (anti-inflammatory and improves metabolism), artichoke (contains cynarin which improves the breakdown of fats), and apples (rich in soluble fibre which helps to clean the colon).

2.  Try a Detox Tea.

You can make a detox tea from dandelion, artichoke, milk thistle and burdock.  Take the dried herbs, mix in a jar, then take a scoop and use a tea ball to make a cup of detoxifying tea.

3.  Saunas.

Multiple studies have shown that saunas are effective in removing solvents, organic chemicals, PCBs, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metal toxins from the human body.

4.  Dry Skin Brushing.

Use a natural fibre bristle brush before you shower to complete this technique.  Start at your feet and brush towards your heart, repeat on the legs, over the abdomen and back.  This stimulates lymphatics, blood circulation, and removes dead skin.

A customized Detox program may be just what the Doctor ordered to put that "spring" back in your step if you are feeling extra sluggish after the winter!   We can customize a detox program for you that may include specific dietary recommendations and recipes, supplements, acupuncture and exercise prescriptions all tailored to your individual needs.
