Why do I keep getting sick?
So many patients are coming in to the clinic these days suffering from colds, flus, sinusitis, and respiratory infections. Every September and October we see the same thing as the seasons change, as we all go back indoors and get back into more hectic schedules. Stress has a huge impact on the immune system, as does more time spent inside, allowing germs to spread quickly. Being sick is certainly not fun, but it is a normal process that we all go through and your body should be able to easily recover from with some downtime and TLC.
If you find that you are getting sick more often than you should be, or if you are finding that it is taking too long to fully recover, here are some tips that can be helpful.
- At the first sign of a cold or flu, begin a herbal formula to boost your white blood cells. Examples of this include Cold Away or Andrographis complex. Ask us which formula would be best in your case.
- Take 4000mg of vitamin C daily during a cold or flu
- Eat garlic or garlic tablets. Garlic is a natural antiviral and antibiotic.
- Take 3000IU of vitamin D
- Get plenty of sleep. Sleeping for 10+ hours on the first night of a cold can reduce severity and intensity of the illness.
- Try a wet sock treatment. This may sound a bit strange, but it works!
- Get a thin pair of socks and wet them with cool water. Wring them out and put them on.
- Place a thick pair of dry socks over the wet socks and go to bed.
This treatment will draw a large amount of blood down to your feet in order to warm and dry the wet socks you are wearing. This simple treatment greatly relieves congestion in the upper sinuses. |
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this newsletter!
We strive to give every patient the highest level of and most up to date research based naturopathic care possible.
Your referrals and positive reviews are appreciated beyond words!
Sincerely yours from all of us at White Lotus Clinic.
