Bronco Baseball Sparta Program

This year Bronco Baseball once again paired with Sparta, a Bay Area athlete training facility that uses scientific innovation to create a unique training program for athletes. Junior Kyle Czaplak reflects on Bronco Baseball's Sparta Training Program as well as the "Regen" diet.

"As a program and university, we are extremely fortunate to be teamed up with Sparta Sports Science. It is a very unique privilege that many programs across the nation do not have. The highly educated and experienced staff helps transform each and every player into becoming the best athlete possible day in and day out. Our strength program goes well beyond lifting and running to become more physical athletes.

We pride ourselves in not only lifting weights, but also having the best nutritionally balanced diet in the country as well as managing sleep and recovery. With the help of Sparta we have moved away from purely heavy lifting to gain size and strength. We now use scientifically backed data to create better movement patterns through our lifts and training. Our focus has shifted towards gaining mobility, flexibility, speed, and strength. We pride ourselves in holding each other accountable on a daily basis and truly believe that our investment in the program will equate to more wins on the field."

Future Broncos Sign NLI's

Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: John Cresto

"I chose Santa Clara because of its baseball coaching staff and their work ethic, as well as the great academics, beautiful campus and reputation," Cresto said.

In 2014, Cresto and the Cathedral Catholic Dons posted a 25-7 record and went 10-2 to win the Eastern League. The Dons defeated Vista High School in the highly-competitive CIFSDS Open Division Playoffs and finished the season ranked No. 9 in California, according to MaxPreps. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect is a three-sport athlete, also playing basketball and football for the Dons.

"John comes from a great family and great program in Cathedral Catholic," assistant coach Keith Beauregard said. "He has an incredibly high ceiling. In terms of character he's an instant fit; he really believes in the core values of the program. John defines what it means to be a Bronco, and we're excited to have him join the team."

Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: Travis Howard

"I chose Santa Clara because I feel the relationship I have with the coaches and players here will give me the best possible college experience on and off the field," Howard said.

In 2014, Howard and the Tigers finished the season at 16-10 overall and 9-5 in section to take fourth place in Section 6. Led by head coach Erinn McManus, the team won 10 of its first 11 games and scored double-digit runs in six of its first seven games last season. Howard was named 2nd Team All-Southern Arizona during his junior campaign. As a sophomore on varsity in 2013, Howard posted a .545 batting average.

"Travis is a big, imposing presence on the mound and has a chance to pitch in a premium role right away," associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "Travis has the physicality and the work ethic that are going to lead him to great things. In the recruiting process we really loved the fact that Travis is a multiple sport athlete (also a wrestler), and that he has real grit about him.  The mindset, paired with really good stuff is going to give Travis a chance to be very good right away."
