Baseball Hosts Pepperdine in WCC Opening Series; Friday and Saturday's Games to Feature Radio

Santa Clara baseball begins its quest for the West Coast Conference title this weekend with a Friday-Sunday series against the Pepperdine Waves at Schott Stadium.

Last weekend, the Broncos went 2-1 at home against the Penn State Nittany Lions. The visitors won the first of that three-game set 6-5 on March 13, and neither team led by more than one run at any point in the contest. On March 14, the Broncos trailed 5-1 before scoring nine unanswered runs over a three-inning span to win 10-5. In the series finale March 15, Santa Clara built a 4-3 lead and shut the Nittany Lions out over the final five innings to win 6-3.

Bronco Baseball Alumni Network Growing; Hall of History at Schott Stadium Expanding

For more than a century the Bronco Baseball program has been sending out nine to a play a game of ball. Over 130 years of baseball at Santa Clara has brought about countless memories and produced one of the nation's oldest and most storied baseball programs.

Head Coach Dan O'Brien doesn't miss a chance to remind people how important this history is to the university, the current team, and the city at large. "We don't go a day without meeting as a team to talk about why what we are doing is bigger than all of us," says O'Brien. "The men who came before us set the standard for excellence and we are working every single day to make them proud and start a new tradition of success."

Coach O'Brien and his staff have expanded the Hall of History at Schott Stadium and they encourage all former players to take a stroll through the home clubhouse to enjoy over 100 years of photos, artifacts, and memories. Furthermore, the coaching staff is working hard to stay in touch and involve all past players and their families. Bronco Baseball Alumni should check out the All-Time Roster, the growing Alumni Network, and the "Missing In Action" list to make sure their information is correct and up to date.

RD Academy Adds Extra Week of Summer Camp; Registration is Open and Spots are Filling Up

After selling out four summer camps in 2013, RD Academy is increasing the number of youth camps they are offering this summer. For five weeks in July and August, youth players between the ages of 7 - 13 years old will have an opportunity to attend baseball camp at Santa Clara University. The camps are designed for players of all skill levels, and the daily activities include drills and competitions to help players improve their pitching, hitting, fielding, baserunning, and defense.

"We don't just try to make the players better at baseball. We also work to instill in them a love of the game, the desire to be better teammates, and the discipline to develop their skills on their own," said camp director Sean Riley. "Besides working on the physical skills, we talk to the campers about hustle, sportsmanship, the mental game, and hard work."
