Bronco Baseball Kick Off Weekend Coming Soon

Before Santa Clara takes to the diamond to start the 2014 season, Bronco Baseball will host its Kick Off Weekend February 7 and 8. The weekend features a golf outing at Pasatiempo Golf Club, a bocce ball tournament, a banquet following the tournament and the annual alumni game.

"It creates some serious chaos to have this event a week before our home opener, but I wouldn't have it any other way," Head Coach Dan O'Brien said. "I love the passion and energy it creates not only for our alumni but for the entire Bronco baseball family as well. It's an awesome event and a great time of year. My bocce ball game isn't the best, but I'll find a way."

Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: Braden Frankfort

Today, Bronco baseball announces the fifth member of its incoming class of freshman for 2014-15, Braden Frankfort. The catcher currently attends Clovis North High School in Fresno, Calif.

"Santa Clara has great values not only as a school, but as a community," Frankfort said. "I also really liked the facilities, coaches, players and everyone I met that was a part of the Bronco family. The Silicon Valley is beautiful and full of great people."

Written by Kennedy Dinius ('17)

Bronco Baseball Diamond Club Keeps Growing
In 2013-2014, the Santa Clara Baseball program must raise over $200,000 to operate and help offset costs associated with travel, equipment, umpires, recruiting, scheduling, and facilities. Although Dan O'Brien and his staff have done a tremendous job fundraising and growing the Diamond Club, more support is needed this fiscal year.

"We're working hard to grow our Diamond Club family and want to thank those who've believed in, and supported, Bronco Baseball through our Diamond Club," said Head Coach Dan O'Brien. "We are asking all of our fans to consider joining the Diamond Club, either at the Junior Level, Standard Level, or Elite Level. Every supporter who joins our Diamond Club family helps us get one step closer to reaching our goals."

Players Discuss New Replay Rules in Baseball
Bronco Baseball players Mac Hess ('14) and Rory Graf-Brennen ('17) recently took to the RD Baseball Blog to share their thoughts and ideas about the West Coast Conference and Major League Baseball expanding replay in the 2014 baseball season.

Graf-Brennen was adamant that "a machine should never call balls and strikes", but could get on board with the new replay system. Hess, however, believes the new replay rules take away from the "purity and simplicity" of the game and wholeheartedly disagrees with the expansion in replay.
