Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: Austin Fisher

Today, Bronco baseball announces the fourth member of its incoming class of freshman for 2014-15, Austin Fisher. The shortstop currently attends Acalanes High School in Lafayette, Calif., about one hour north of the Mission Campus.

"I chose Santa Clara University because of the coaching staff, great baseball facilities and exceptional academics," Fisher said. "I first met the coaches at a prospect camp and I liked their philosophies and their old-school style of baseball. I also liked how they stress the fundamentals of baseball and playing the game the right way along with their emphasis on the team being a family and playing for each other."

"Choices" by Powell Fansler ('14)

Choices. That's what we have in life. There is always more than one choice, whether that be to study or not to study, to focus on the last sprint or to simply run it, or to save your younger brother from drowning or run and get someone else. I chose to save my brother and I did it with roller skates on, holding him above my head and skating up the deep end trying to get him above water. He lived and I won't ever take back that choice. My parents were busy working and I decided to help lessen their worry...

Getting to Know Sophomore Peter Hendron
What draws you to baseball?  What is special about the college game?
I am drawn to the competitive nature of baseball and the feeling of winning championships.  The college game is special because there is so much camaraderie and brotherhood among the team.

Who is your favorite guy on the team to compete with? To compete against? Why?
I like to compete with Nick Medeiros because he fires me up, and wants to win more than anyone.  I like to compete against Steven Wilson because we are always pushing each other to new limits.

Top 5 people, living or dead, to compete against? In what?
Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Pete Rose in baseball.  Mugsy Bogues one on one in basketball, and Stevie Berman in table tennis.
