Playing its final games of the 2013 season, Santa Clara baseball visits Stanford on Tues., May 14 at 6 p.m. before traveling south for a matchup with LMU Friday through Sunday. The game times will be 3 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m.

Last week Santa Clara fell in the final home game of the season to future West Coast Conference opponent Pacific and dropped the first of a three-game series at Cincinnati. The Broncos bounced back to take the next two from the Bearcats and win the series.

"We took two of three in Cincinnati because we were able to put it together on all ends," said Santa Clara assistant coach Keith Beauregard. "When we needed a big hit, we got it. When we needed a big pitch, we got it. We made all the plays defensively. When we've done that this season, we've been a team that's tough to beat. Putting together a complete game is not easy but when we do we reap the benefits. This weekend was us playing our style of ball and executing our game plan."

Get to Know Ben Campopiano, Director of Baseball Operations

BSCFrom Capitol Hill to the baseball field, second year director of baseball operations Ben Campopiano reflects back on the 2013 season for the Broncos and his journey here. After spending a few years in politics, Campopiano realized that politics weren't satisfying his needs, so he decided to head back to what he knew best, coaching baseball.

"Even before I went into politics, I was doing a lot of coaching, so I always had it in my blood," said Campopiano. "And after spending a few years in the political world, I missed coaching and working with young players and wanted to make a career of it."

Former Broncos In the Minor Leagues

If you walk into the team room at Stephen Schott Stadium, it does not take long to realize there is a rich history of Santa Clara baseball. The Bronco baseball program has also fostered a rich history of having players get drafted professionally. In fact, since 1965, at least one Santa Clara player has been taken in 44 out of the last 47 drafts including 35 consecutive drafts (1965-2000).

Daniel Nava, who it is noteworthy to mention was not one of the Santa Clara players drafted (he played independent baseball before signing a minor league contract). Nava has had some big moments at his home ballpark, Fenway, hitting a grand slam in his first career at-bat and hit arguably the biggest homerun in Boston regular season history, at least for the emotions of the Boston people, to win the Red Sox's first game after the tragic Boston Marathon bombings. Santa Clara currently has eight players in the minor league systems waiting for their shot at making the big leagues.
