Broncos Split Midweek Series with San Diego State University

In a two game midweek series at Stephen Schott Stadium against San Diego State University, Santa Clara won the first game of the series 12-3 and lost the second game 7-4.
Junior outfielder Casey Munoz led the Broncos during the series going 4 for 7 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. In 12 games with the Broncos in 2013, Munoz - a transfer from Palomar College - is hitting .412 with 11 RBIs and an On Base Percentage of .426. Baseball Hosts No. 14 Stanford, Travels to San Jose State for First Road Games in 2013
The Broncos host local rivals Stanford and San Jose State this week
After taking two of three games from Northern Colorado over the weekend, Santa Clara baseball returns to the field for a mid-week game on Tuesday vs. No. 14 Stanford before playing three games with San Jose State. The Broncos will travel for the first time this season on Fri., March 8 and Sun., March 10 when they travel to San Jose State. On Sat., March 9 the Broncos will host the Spartans.
Last week Santa Clara split a two-game series with San Diego State before taking two of three from Northern Colorado over the weekend.
"We've had our ups and downs early this season but that's something that we can use to benefit us," said Bronco head coach Dan O'Brien. "We're learning how to take some punches but we need to get to where we can continue to fight and not give in. We've been getting tougher but we'll continue to work at it."
Zach Looney, who was once a full time shortstop, is looking forward to the upcoming season with the Santa Clara Bronco baseball team as the starting catcher. Starting at the position of catcher on a whim in high school, Looney (ZL) tells SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCU) how excited he is to work with the pitchers, coaches and entire team to bring the Broncos a successful season.
SCU: At what age did you begin to play baseball and how did you get into the sport?
ZL: I have been playing some form of baseball since I was about five years old. It has always been my favorite sport. Both my dad and uncle were big time baseball players so I grew up watching the game and learning about it. I fell in love with it and have enjoyed every minute of my time playing it.

RD Academy at Santa Clara University is now accepting registrations for their summer baseball camps. The summer schedule includes 4 week-long Youth Camps, and a High School Showcase camp for serious players looking to play collegiate and professional baseball.
"We believe that every player who comes to our camp should leave with improved skills and a greater love for the game, said Camp Director Ben Campopiano. "Our goal is to make every camper a better player and a bigger fan of baseball than when they arrived at camp."
