Stevie Berman, a local product out of Saratoga, Calif., attended Saratoga High School where he was coached by Adam Varteressian. In his junior year in 2012 his team was a CCS quarterfinalist and Berman was All-CCS Honorable Mention. He was also 2012 All-League First-Team and won the Toughest Out Award. In 2011 he won the Most Valuable Underclassman and was All-League Second-Team.

"I chose Santa Clara for a lot of reasons," said Berman. "First of all, the coaches and players are some of the best around and made me feel part of the baseball family since day one. I love the old school style of play, how hard the team competes and how much fun they have together. From a non-baseball side, Santa Clara is known for developing great students and great human beings. Anywhere you go on campus, there's a real sense of community and family that I can't wait to be a part of."

men's health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo's, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

"Movember is all about communicating about men's health issues with anyone who will listen," said Santa Clara Baseball Assistant Coach Gabe Ribas. "We believe that Movember has shown great leadership in this movement, and it is the kind of leadership that we want our players to demonstrate."

My Sanctuary
By Emma Stotz, Student Operations Assistant

My younger brother and I always gave Dad a "good luck kiss" before each  game as kids. It was our tradition. Dad has always been big on tradition, which may explain his thirty-seven year long coaching career at Stanford University. His job as a baseball coach has always been a family ordeal, never neglecting to drag us into a plethora of recruiting dinners, team banquets, baseball fieldgames, and even the occasional afternoon practice when Mom wasn't available to pick us up from school. I would sit there for hours after school watching batting practice, taking in every swing, every dive, and every catch until it was finally time to head home. But the baseball didn't end there. It came home with us, too. Children often complain when their fathers bring their work home with them. But when I was a kid, I couldn't wait for my dad to bring his work home. There was nothing I loved more than to congregate around the dinner table each night and discuss baseball over a plate of mashed potatoes. All in all, baseball was never considered just his career, but rather, a way of life for all of us within the family.
