Fine Arts and Extra Curricular Activities
In Birmingham City Schools our core business is teaching and learning. In that regard, our primary focus, and rightly so, has been student achievement centered on our core subject areas. We have, and continue, to direct our resources - human, material and financial -- to our schools and students to provide academic supports that ensure that every child reaches his or her full academic potential. Nevertheless, it is important for us to recognize that academics alone do not make for a well-rounded student. That is why we are taking a closer look at the fine arts and extra-curricular activities and opportunities that we are able to afford our students.
