A Message from the Superintendent  

As Birmingham City Schools, along with the greater Birmingham community, celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Frank E. Adams, Sr., the Birmingham City Schools Magic City Marching Band Festival provides the opportunity for us to fondly remember one of our city's greatest music icons.  The Magic City Marching Band Festival, scheduled to be held Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Carver High School, began in 1978 under the leadership of Dr. Adams, who retired from BCS in 1997 as a program specialist in music.  This event, since its inception, has provided an opportunity for public performance for our system's marching bands, and has helped to enhance the total band experience for our students by providing an opportunity for interaction with experts in the field of music who have offered positive feedback and coaching to our young musicians.

With a goal of strengthening school leadership to increase student achievement, Birmingham City Schools is proud to present an impressive administrative roster of both new and veteran Principals to lead the system .. 

  
to witness what many are calling a new era for Birmingham City Schools. Notable of the many speakers was student from Lewis Elementary.  The fifth-grade student, Israel Torres, led the charge for the event.  He pleaded with the new board saying, "We're counting on you for your leadership.
